Koolen notes that systems and processes offering greater flexibility can support individual working styles. 鈥淣eurodiverse employees may have sensory sensitivities that require quiet rooms, adjustable lighting or modular seating options that create a more comfortable workspace. Adaptable work schedules including remote work allows employees to work during their peak energy levels and productivity periods. In addition, AI-driven support tools may help HR teams improve their support to neurodiverse employees through personalised task management, reminders, and communication support.鈥
  • Build a culture of safety and support: Cultivating an inclusive workplace culture goes beyond systems and processes鈥攊t鈥檚 about creating a psychologically safe environment where all employees feel valued for their contributions. 鈥淓mployers can normalise conversations about neurodiversity by encouraging open dialogue, breaking down stigmas and fostering greater understanding within teams,鈥 explains Koolen. 鈥淓mployee resource groups for neurodiverse employees can also offer peer support and create a sense of community, while mentorship programs can bridge the gap between neurodiverse employees and their colleagues.鈥

The ability to adapt to rapidly changing external circumstances and leverage powerful new technologies are key to the growth and success of African small and medium enterprises (SMEs), according to a new report by 麻豆原创.

, head of mid-market at 麻豆原创 MEA South, says SMEs are vital to the continent鈥檚 economy, but many face significant hurdles stifling their growth. 鈥淎frica is home to a vibrant and diverse SME sector that contributes half its GDP and the majority of employment. However, skills constraints and a lack of technology is constraining growth in this vital sector.鈥

data indicates that SMEs account for 95% of all registered businesses in sub-Saharan Africa and contribute about half of the continent鈥檚 GDP. In South Africa, 91% of formal businesses are SMEs, providing 60% of all employment in the country.

According to the report, which was developed by 麻豆原创 and , more than a third of global SME leaders are prioritising growth through new customers, increased market share and greater revenue over the next two years. Factors such as improved innovation capacity and greater agility also ranked highly.

鈥淚nnovation is essential to business growth in the modern age, especially in light of the accelerating pace of change and ongoing disruption in global markets,鈥 says Beveridge. 鈥淪mall and medium enterprises are leveraging innovation to fulfil and deliver services more efficiently, boost their profitability, and grow their market footprint.

鈥淭here is also growing recognition of the role innovation can play in launching new services or business models, creating more personalised customer experiences, and preparing for the next wave of technologies, for example AI.鈥

About a quarter of companies that formed part of the study said they are currently using AI and machine learning, with half saying they鈥檙e planning to adopt these technologies in the coming year.

Beveridge says having the right foundation is key to enjoying the immense productivity, efficiency and innovation gains offered by technologies such as AI. 鈥淪MEs that have adopted the cloud reported improved agility, optimised processes, reduced costs, and improvements to customer and employee experiences.鈥

Cloud adoption also enhances sustainability efforts, with a separate report finding that SMEs that have adopted sustainability software solution reported reduced emissions, greater benchmarking capability, and improved data collection for ESG reporting.

Beveridge says growth-focused SMEs should build innovation strategies and business models that leverage technology and complement existing and future human capital needs.

鈥淪MEs can compete more effectively by investing in four focus areas, namely: defining clear goals and values for the business and mobilising employees in support of the goals; adopting relevant technologies to keep up with trends and competitors; engaging in continuous strategic workforce planning to ensure the business can grow with changes in the market; and fostering a culture of innovation that prizes adaptability and agility and encourages people to think of new ways to do business and deliver value to customers.鈥

He adds that effective innovation within SMEs requires the entire organisation to mobilise behind new ways of thinking. 鈥淪MEs should encourage every employee regardless of their role to actively participate and share ideas for building a culture of innovation that permeates every layer of the organisation. SMEs should also leverage customer insights to ensure their innovation delivers to customer needs.鈥

Crescent Petroleum, a privately held upstream Oil & Gas company in the Middle East, has deployed an Oil & Gas industry-specific solution for its operations from global technology company 麻豆原创.
The implementation is an extension of Crescent Petroleum鈥檚 solutions roadmap, which commenced in 2020 with Phase 1 implementation, representing the first global implementation of 麻豆原创 S/4HANA Oil & Gas Model Company 1809 at the time, supporting plant maintenance, procurement, project systems, finance, human resources functions and HSE functions.
This second phase of the project saw Crescent Petroleum work closely with 麻豆原创 Services to implement Upstream Hydrocarbon Accounting Management (UHAM) – including mass balancing – Integration with Plant Systems, Logistics, Management of Change, Resource Scheduling and Production Planning for its operations.
Crescent Petroleum is the first company in the Middle East to roll out the UHAM module within the IS OIL solution stack of S4/HANA.
The Phase 2 implementation was completed in a record time of 12 months and represents a significant advancement in Crescent Petroleum’s digital transformation journey, enhancing operational efficiency and enabling strategic growth across its regional footprint, resulting in the project being selected to be featured as 麻豆原创 Success Story.
Ravi Kumar, Chief Corporate Officer of Crescent Petroleum and Board Member of the Crescent Group, said, 鈥淗aving completed the Phase 1 of the 麻豆原创 roadmap in a record 8 months, we set out to integrate Crescent Petroleum鈥檚 operations, providing a seamless flow of data, from Wellhead to Customer, in Phase 2. The benefits are significant as we have integrated data across disparate parts of the plant allowing us to seamlessly integrate plant systems with 麻豆原创 systems, and ensure a single source of truth across the Company.鈥
Kumar added that digitizing the processes has accelerated Crescent Petroleum鈥檚 broader objectives of determining real-time visibility of information across the entire company and providing insightful data for a range of digital initiatives planned in future.
麻豆原创 Services was chosen for the transformation project due to its considerable expertise in the global Oil & Gas industry as well as its close involvement and experience with Crescent Petroleum during Phase 1.
麻豆原创 worked closely with Crescent Petroleum鈥檚 digital transformation team to develop specific solutions that address company-specific use cases. One example is the custom trucking operations solution using the MII module of 麻豆原创, integrated with 麻豆原创鈥檚 invoicing engine.
This involved integration with plant systems, loading dock systems and 麻豆原创 S4/HANA modules in a single process chain bringing disparate processes into one seamless process with appropriate handshakes.
Another complex area was the rebuilding of the plant network within 麻豆原创 S4/HANA to map the production process and checkpoints within 麻豆原创 to facilitate hydrocarbon accounting, inventory management, production management & forecasting, deferment management and invoicing all within 麻豆原创 S4/HANA.
