A chat with the AI copilot can reveal the latest numbers or allow the human counterpart to intervene directly, using their own words to work on approval or maintenance activities.

鈥淭his is the central entry point to 麻豆原创 on steroids,鈥 explains Markus Kopf, VP and head of Mobile Experience and Engineering at 麻豆原创, illustrating the combination of native mobile experience and generative AI for Apple or Android-based systems.

Experience unparalleled business power at your fingertips

Kopf uses his smartphone like a streaming remote control that listens to him. He asks about sales orders with an open delivery status, for example. What happens next seems to take place in the 麻豆原创 Mobile Start app 鈥 that鈥檚 just the surface though. In the background, 麻豆原创 Business AI recognizes the application from which the information must come and how it must be processed.

鈥淎nd instantly, the AI agent delivers the results. A chat interface shows me the sales orders I have asked for. It also offers me to look into the details,鈥 Kopf adds. According to him, this will radically change the way people work with 麻豆原创 in many areas. Scenarios range from sales applications to human resources and supply chain processes. 鈥淓asy-to-use mobile devices will become the most popular point of interaction with a business system,鈥 Kopf says. Even if the data sets and possibilities that make 麻豆原创 so versatile and powerful might not suddenly become completely simple, the complexity behind will become more and more invisible to end users.

Since its launch a few years ago, 麻豆原创 Mobile Start has been designed as a doorway to 麻豆原创鈥檚 range of business solutions. The mission: to provide centralized access to native mobile apps, cloud applications, and tools for decision-making and getting insights. The app allows a growing number of end users to complete tasks wherever their employees happen to be. 麻豆原创 attached great importance to an attractive experience. Consistently designed user interfaces utilize the possibilities of each respective device platform.

The introduction of the new version of 麻豆原创 Mobile Start with Joule goes one step further 鈥 from operating 麻豆原创 鈥溾 to a natural conversation that should be possible completely hands-free in the near future.

To help people use the common voice assistants on their devices, 麻豆原创鈥檚 mobile developers have built so-called app intents that call specific 麻豆原创 functions through voice commands. Apple iPhone users, for example, can activate 麻豆原创鈥檚 AI copilot by saying, 鈥淗ey Siri, ask 麻豆原创 how many vacation days I have.鈥

Examples of Joule in 麻豆原创 Mobile Start: Help, transactional, and native integration with 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors. Click to enlarge.

The prospect of business apps that can be used without clicks and keystrokes not only changes how people process certain tasks, but it will also make many jobs a lot safer. One prominent scenario will be working on machines at lofty heights with work clothing that makes it almost impossible to use equipment by hand.

麻豆原创 has massively expanded the capabilities of its AI copilot for more than 100 use cases. 麻豆原创 CEO Christian Klein recently called Joule the 鈥渃hampion鈥 of all AI business agents. In fact, practically no other company can offer its customers access to a comparable wealth of data and business process knowledge.

Benefiting from this, 麻豆原创 mobile apps can be particularly quick and easy to adopt, especially for high-volume use cases. For more individual requirements, the development and automation toolkit, which also works with 麻豆原创 Business AI, can enable building further applications.

鈥淐onsider 麻豆原创 Mobile Start as the future beginning and center for a fully AI-enabled mobile app suite,鈥 Kopf says. 鈥淚t鈥檚 exciting to see our vision becoming a reality now. The power of business AI and the latest mobile technology transform the way people engage with our applications, making it more natural and just better for all of us.鈥

麻豆原创 Delivers Mobile, the Missing Piece in Digital Transformation /2023/07/sap-delivers-mobile-digital-transformation/ Tue, 18 Jul 2023 11:15:54 +0000 /?p=205922 At the second 麻豆原创 Mobile Day, it became clear that mobile is not just a playground for motivating employees with nice devices. Instead, speakers of leading brands showed that coherent mobile concepts are crucial to successfully innovate, deliver, and win the race for talent.

Forty 麻豆原创 customers, partners, and guests were on hand to discuss and exchange with 麻豆原创 product development and design. The freshly expanded and refined mobile experience package shown by 麻豆原创 in Berlin, Germany, seems to have resonated.

麻豆原创 has taken major 鈥 and partly unexpected 鈥 steps toward a well-rounded business offering that includes a fresh and consistent user experience across product lines. Solutions for critical processes such as digital supply chain are included as well as tools and a platform that can allow customers fast in-house development of mobile apps.

One mobile experience package by 麻豆原创. Click to enlarge.

鈥溌槎乖 has defined a new way to easily create native apps with the help of not only user-friendly interfaces, but also high-performing applications,鈥 said Michele Biscotti from Audi AG. The German manufacturer of premium cars demonstrated how the company is using new native apps from 麻豆原创 to improve warehouse processes, for example. Audi also centralizes and simplifies the entry to 麻豆原创 applications with 麻豆原创 Mobile Start.

At the same time, Audi AG is developing its own apps based on 麻豆原创 BTP SDK for iOS and 麻豆原创 BTP SDK for Android. 鈥淎udi decided to use 麻豆原创 BTP SDK because we are confident that native app development saves time and cost in both operation and development processes,鈥 said Biscotti.

This is a path that Audi AG shares with other renowned manufacturers such as CLAAS. The agricultural machinery manufacturer relies heavily on native app development with 麻豆原创 for its use cases. Other machinery producers like Kaeser Kompressoren also see the appeal of 麻豆原创’s mobile offering in the rapid availability of native apps. Kaeser, for example, uses the brand-new 麻豆原创 Product Model Viewer mobile app with augmented reality display alongside 麻豆原创 Enterprise Product Development.

Google: Digital Transformation Needs Mobile

In Berlin, 麻豆原创 partner Google provided insights into its own trend analyses on mobile and business transformation. According to Google, for many retailers mobile solutions create the link between the physical world, where customers or employees interact, and the world of data. 鈥淢obile is the presentation layer to the digital business. It is how data becomes actionable by people,鈥 said Sean Ginevan, head of Global Strategy & Digital Partnerships for Android Enterprise at Google.

Many employees see mobile devices as a benefit and work more productively with them. At the same time, mobile applications optimize human actions and processes through effective data analysis. However, as of today, the maturity of mobile within organizations is lacking, even within industries where maturity would be expected. 鈥淢obile is often the missing piece in the digital transformation of companies,鈥 stated Ginevan.

This is precisely where 麻豆原创 comes into play, as its developers and designers showed in Berlin. Like Google, 麻豆原创 sees mobile not just as a synonym for smartphones. For 麻豆原创, it鈥檚 about a holistic approach for all devices that are untethered and benefit specifically from native features. Florian Heretsch, head of the Mobile Experience and Engineering unit at 麻豆原创, put it this way: 鈥淲ith this 鈥榦ne mobile鈥 offering, as we call it, we create solutions for any kind of mobile technology that helps our customers improve. Whether it’s a phone, watch, or mixed-reality handset, we equip them with pre-built or custom applications. What’s unique to 麻豆原创 is the comprehensive, cross-industry process knowledge that enables this, together with simplified development options. That鈥檚 what you only get with 麻豆原创.鈥

All in all, 麻豆原创 Mobile Day confirmed that 麻豆原创 mobile is becoming more and more important for many businesses that want to push the change to digital forward. And it proved that the event series deserves to be continued next year.

麻豆原创 and Partners Create Mobile Solutions to Tackle Supply Chain Challenges /2022/12/sap-mobile-day-supply-chain-challenges/ Fri, 02 Dec 2022 13:15:35 +0000 /?p=201325 Mobile solutions will play an unprecedented role in overcoming today鈥檚 supply chain challenges. That鈥檚 one of the key takeaways from an intensive exchange between 麻豆原创 and more than 40 customers and partners at the first 麻豆原创 Mobile Day in Munich, Germany.

Empower Employees with the Technology They Want

Global challenges have made it clear mobile is the only way through and forward. The pressing need to help customers run at their best beyond geographical constraints, combined with the modern workforce鈥檚 growing dismay at outdated work tools, gave rise to a growing mobile adoption worldwide. But adopting mobile apps isn’t without challenges.

The 麻豆原创 team took a hard look at existing solutions. Florian Heretsch, vice president and head of Mobile Experience & Engineering at 麻豆原创, explained that the team鈥檚 goal is simple: to create native mobile apps that users love to use and require zero training time to master. 鈥淓very business app from 麻豆原创 also does what people expect of any social media or weather app. We have holistically looked into what people really need to get their work done: a simple and beautiful experience, the latest cross-device native features, and the fastest, most intuitive technology available,鈥 he said. The results are a new mobile app suite crafted with partners including Apple and Scandit.

Christian Floerkemeier, vice president of Product, CTO, and co-founder of Scandit, added to the importance of user experience: 鈥淲ith employee expectations increasing, user centricity is key. Smart data capture, such as automating the scanning of items, empowers workers by shifting tedious work to technology. This helps reduce errors, saves time, and increases job satisfaction while workers can also be upskilled by having the right data delivered to them in real time to make informed decisions.鈥

Take Digitalization to New Heights

But good looks alone won鈥檛 do the trick. 鈥淎n enterprise mobile experience requires a thorough understanding of specific industry and business process requirements, deeply below what鈥檚 visible on the user interface. ,鈥 said Philipp Herzig, senior vice president and head of Intelligent Enterprise & Cross Architecture at 麻豆原创.

Indeed, modern enterprises require more than an elegant look and feel to fulfill their commitment to helping customers become efficient and sustainable. Beneath the fancy packaging, mobile devices and solutions bring digitalization to a whole new level. The Bechtle team 鈥 Christian Deppisch, Josephine Leschik, and Martin Ullrich 鈥 explain how system integration increases efficiency: 鈥淪ystem and process integration with mobile devices means the job becomes much simpler for employees and a great reduction in mistakes, which in turn improves the quality of deliverables and quickens business processes. As a result, operational efforts and costs can be greatly reduced.鈥

Tackle Industry Challenges Head-On

For service and maintenance workers, following assigned tasks ensures both customer satisfaction and their own safety. In some environments, one mistake or a skipped step can be life-threatening.

Gregor Bender, managing director of Evora IT Solutions GmbH, shared how the 麻豆原创 Service and Asset Manager mobile app and other mobile solutions help Evora and its customers stay on top of their game. 鈥淩elevant information that supports technicians in their on-site decision-making is digitalized, stored in the 麻豆原创 system, and integrated into the maintenance processes. This means that technicians can get their job done easier, faster, and much safer, “Bender said. “By allowing remote collaboration, critical industry challenges like transferring knowledge to the next generation of technicians are furthermore supported.鈥

鈥淭he right mobile solutions are crucial to enhancing both service quality and efficiency,鈥 said Stephan Niewoehner, head of Mobile Innovation, and Henning Pohlhausen, consultant for Mobile Applications at CLAAS. CLAAS provides its service technicians with one central app to guide their processes and tasks as well. 鈥淓specially for many of our colleagues who work in the field, a native, offline app is a tremendous help in their daily business, as they can quickly gather information required for their job, schedule them in an efficient manner, and single-handedly document details of each job,鈥 he added. Alongside the native mobile apps in the production and warehouse area, CLAAS鈥檚 Digital Service Manager app helps ensure accurate service delivery and contributes to building a sustainable supply chain by replacing traditional paper processes with an easy-to-use mobile one.

There鈥檚 still a lot to do to truly transform the modern enterprise, but with a network of like-minded customers and strong partnerships, 麻豆原创 is continuing its mobile innovations in optimism.

Industry 4.0 Attracts Workers Whose Entire Lives Are on Their Mobile Device /2022/11/industry-4-0-attracts-workers-whose-entire-lives-are-on-their-mobile-device/ Fri, 25 Nov 2022 11:15:06 +0000 /?p=200876 Manufacturers facing dire worker shortages are turning to Industry 4.0 to attract the next generation of people who want satisfying careers at the forefront of a rapidly innovating sector. One predicted over two million manufacturing jobs in the U.S. could go unfilled by 2030, while another from the expected American companies to bring back about 350,000 positions this year. The good news for job seekers is that cutting-edge manufacturers are offering new opportunities to learn valuable technical and business skills, helping more people fully participate in the digital economy.

鈥淭his new generation of workers, whose entire lives are on their mobile devices, have completely different expectations from the employees who are walking out the door with 35 years of experience,鈥 said Mike Lackey, global vice president of Solution Management for Digital Manufacturing at 麻豆原创. 鈥淢anufacturers must attract new workers by bringing data to the point of work with intelligent mobile experiences and intuitive machine interfaces. This improves workplace safety and the worker experience, as it creates greater business efficiencies.鈥

Connected Data Helps Meet Production Schedules

Unlike historical shop floor responsibilities, workers in Industry 4.0 factories won鈥檛 be limited to rote tasks on a single machine. They鈥檒l be cross trained to manage multiple machines, using instantaneous and integrated information from their mobile device. They鈥檒l collaborate much more across teams and departments.

鈥淚ndustry 4.0 delivers what鈥檚 called 鈥榳orker guidance,鈥 bringing information directly to the individual on the shop floor for faster and more efficient decisions,鈥 said Lackey. 鈥淢anufacturing is all about throughput, quality, and managing costs. With the right information, the operator can make sure that the equipment and the processes are running optimally, reducing machine downtime, rework, and scrap. This is the purpose of , which brings business and operational data together for informed company-wide decisions while delivering process enforcement, complete traceability, and a record of the product genealogy.鈥

analysts predicted that in response to the reality of digital disruption, 60% of businesses will embrace a decision-making model that combines the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and human judgment for more informed decision-making by next year. Connected data between the shop floor and other parts of the business, including sales, supply chain, and finance, also has company-wide implications in meeting customer commitments.

鈥淵ou can鈥檛 promise an order if you don鈥檛 have the parts to make or finish the product,鈥 said Lackey. 鈥淪imilarly, in an automated line, you might have 200 pieces of equipment from 24 different vendors. If there鈥檚 a quality issue with a material or machine malfunction, integrated data with embedded machine learning can alert shop floor workers to correctly adjust equipment to the specified parameters, minimizing production slowdowns and keeping quality high. Connected data helps workers understand the impact of their decisions on the business while increasing their ability to make a valuable contribution in a more motivated and engaged way.鈥

Digital Improves Workplace Safety

Technology can make the workplace safer for employees, which is equally important for the worker experience and company compliance. While automation can increase the number of potential hazards, it can also keep people safe. Sensors can alert people when they鈥檙e entering a potentially dangerous area or in the moment if they get too close to a piece of equipment, preventing accidents.

Upskilled Workers Lead to Greater Employer Loyalty

Lackey expected manufacturers to invest more in training and development to reskill and upskill workers as Industry 4.0 transformation continues. A recent survey reflected that trend: researchers found that 84% of manufacturing professionals were upgrading their learning and development programs. It鈥檚 an ideal way to expand the pool of qualified employees who can make a valuable contribution to company growth. It鈥檚 also an opportunity for workers to gain skills in some of the coolest innovations.

鈥淔actories are a hotbed of innovation, offering workers a potentially faster, more cost-effective route to a satisfying career, one that might not otherwise be in reach, given the rising costs of higher education,鈥 said Lackey.

Done right, Industry 4.0 is poised to rejuvenate the manufacturing sector with a refreshing blast of innovation. Trained workers can point the camera on their digital device at a piece of equipment with embedded machine learning and make immediate adjustments using virtual 3D visualizations right in front of them on the shop floor. They can instantly connect with design engineers to quickly diagnose and fix problems or reach an external supplier to locate the correct replacement part. Manufacturers are hoping this next generation of workers come for the cool factor and stay for the career-building innovations.

What’s Behind 麻豆原创’s New Mobile Experience /2021/11/whats-behind-saps-new-mobile-experience/ Wed, 03 Nov 2021 11:15:35 +0000 /?p=191576 The 麻豆原创 Mobile Start app and a bold strategy are not just a breeze for business workers who juggle between home, office, and customer interaction 鈥 they are here to boost our changing work style.

The pulse is rising. A jogger receives a message on her smartwatch during her training lap: there鈥檚 a bottleneck at the brewery, consumer demand has increased, the production speed needs to go up. Kilometers away, a family man controls the needed logistics from the kitchen table, while somewhere else a warehouse worker scans barcodes of dozens of pallets with her cell phone.

Headshot of Florian Heretsch
Florian Heretsch

The 麻豆原创 published alongside the new 麻豆原创 Mobile Start app amplifies a new mobile experience. The shown elements, however, are not really new: wearables, notifications, apps. Rather, it’s about the how: editing, timing, and a bass-heavy beat all mesh together, perfectly timed.

The emotionally loaded pacing of the clip symbolizes how 麻豆原创 wants to increase the “beats per minute” in mobile user experience. At the DJ booth, this is called pitching. And indeed, it鈥檚 a kind of market pitch, meant to evoke a sense that something new is coming for 麻豆原创鈥檚 customers.

Florian Heretsch, vice president and head of the new Mobile Experience & Engineering Unit at 麻豆原创, explains what 麻豆原创 Mobile Start means for the initiative and who is setting the pace.

Q: 麻豆原创 Mobile Start has recently been released in the Apple App Store. An Android version will follow soon. Why should I install the app now?

Heretsch: Because it’s the new mobile entry point into the world of 麻豆原创, with a whole new user experience! With this app, you can get a simple, centralized overview of the 麻豆原创 processes and applications that are relevant to you. The app integrates system features like search, widgets, and notifications so that you can have the latest business numbers from on your home screen at all times.

The key is the native experience. This is very different from a web app in a mobile browser! That’s what it’s all about: we want to make mobile working easier for 麻豆原创 customers and their employees. We have kept the technical conditions as simple as possible, such as the back-end connection and the use of 麻豆原创 Launchpad. An end user will ideally not even notice that.

And who is already benefiting from the app today?

The app helps manage projects, for example, or when you have to react quickly to delivery issues. Together with our customers and users around the world, we have created personas for a wide range of usage scenarios. We provide tailored content and individual configuration options. All of this with a simple user interface, supported by the amazing power and reliability of 麻豆原创鈥檚 industry experience that our customers trust. The next version of the app will include the “Task Center,” a shared inbox that will provide HR and purchasing workflows, among other things. The goal is to bundle all of 麻豆原创鈥檚 standard workflows into one app.

Does 麻豆原创 also use the app internally?

Using our own software for over 102,000 employees and gaining experience from it is extremely important for us. After a Beta release, 麻豆原创 Mobile Start will be the native entry point for role-based use of 麻豆原创 apps internally at the beginning of 2022. This will also include 麻豆原创 Fiori apps with the advantage of access to push notifications and full voice control.

It sounds like there’s more to come. 麻豆原创 has been offering mobile front ends for business processes and workflows for some time now. What’s new now?

We are now putting way more emphasis on creating a holistic mobile experience, with the ultimate goal of every customer feeling at home immediately. With 麻豆原创 Mobile Start, we are starting to harmonize all 麻豆原创 apps in terms of design and function; we’re not just bundling more functions. There have to be additional easy-to-use apps for different needs, but an app suite design that鈥檚 deeply integrated with the latest features of iOS or Android devices. And all of this delivers an overall experience that makes users excited to work with our apps.

Many younger people in the business world have had mobile apps since they can remember. How is 麻豆原创 adapting to their expectations? What can we learn from the use of social media, for example?

Actually, many of the younger people we’re talking about have long been working at 鈥 and with 鈥 麻豆原创. At the same time, we are taking a close look at different user communities. We have studies showing that for Germany and comparable markets, people across all age groups and professions want their employers to provide them with the mobile tools they know from their private lives. In other words, many of us have long been communicating and cooperating at a higher level at home than possible in the workplace.

And how does 麻豆原创 intend to change that?

By putting a big exclamation mark behind the necessity of truly changing the possibilities of how work is being done in an intelligent enterprise. By taking a more differentiated look at mobile usage behavior versus desktop usage behavior. Mobile is about short actions without having to think much 鈥 but each of these interactions has to be to spot on! These are moments that matter, served by micro-experiences. Such magic moments and the way we interact with processes and tasks have the power to create an appealing user experience. I don’t want to have cumbersome input fields. I want swipes, animations, everything fluid, elegant!

Screens showing 麻豆原创 Mobile Start

Micro-experiences and smart features speed up the experience. So, no complex CRM or ERP processes on mobile?

I don’t think you need to bring all the roles and functions to mobile. I don’t see big analytics and charts there. The pandemic has accelerated the change of our working behavior. Today, it’s about the freedom to decide where and when to do what. I don’t want to have to rely on a big screen as I switch back and forth between the office, childcare, or virtual meetings, but I want continuity for my business.

And what role do features like augmented reality (AR), artificial intelligence (AI), or specific functions of smartwatches play in this?

We not only have to be technologically up-to-date, we also want to actively drive this development. The minimum is to make effective use of current device functions, such as machine learning in mobile operating systems or voice control. But we are currently trying out a lot here and are looking very closely at the consumer market in order to bring corresponding experiences into the business environment as well.

You’ve called this “the Intelligent Enterprise at your fingertips.鈥

Yes, exactly. 麻豆原创 Mobile Start is both an element and an accelerator of 麻豆原创’s intelligent enterprise strategy. In addition to steering a company, this strategy aims to make work smarter. The Intelligent Enterprise thrives on comprehensive, technical integration of the 麻豆原创 landscape. Our mobile developers can help create this. In this way, our apps become showcases for the Intelligent Enterprise.

By contrast, prominent 麻豆原创 apps for expense management or HR, for example, still seem relatively detached from other apps in terms of look and feel.

As said, one of the elements of our new mobile experience strategy is a stringent portfolio of apps and a harmonized look and feel.

The team responsible for 麻豆原创’s new apps and mobile strategy was also involved in the Corona Warn App, Germany鈥檚 app to help fight the spread of COVID-19. Can we also expect to open new business areas here?

Part of the team developed the first versions. We learned a lot in the process, and not just because we built a consumer app. In travel and expense management we had something like this with TripIt, but the Corona Warn App has created a whole new user environment and perception. This experience will surely influence our business app development. There might be other consumer apps, but the focus will remain on our business offering.

麻豆原创 Mobile Start is fresh in the App Store. An Android version is to follow. 麻豆原创 is now also publishing its new experience strategy. What is “the next big thing”?

One of the next steps will be to further develop and establish 麻豆原创 Mobile Start, for example by integrating the task center for workflows coming from a wide range of systems. We are now also going into feedback rounds with the first 麻豆原创 Mobile Start customers in order to expand the app. Additionally, there will be new native apps for various industries that will push our mobile experience vision further. We are going to show that we are serious about our new claim.

Hello, 麻豆原创 Mobile Start /2021/08/sap-mobile-start-launch/ Tue, 31 Aug 2021 12:15:27 +0000 /?p=187694 Welcome to a new mobile entry point to our intelligent enterprise.

How much time do you spend on mobile devices? I bet it鈥檚 quite a lot. The power of mobile is not only omnipresent in our personal lives, but also the way people conduct their work — even more so during this time of working at home.

At 麻豆原创, we estimate that up to 70% of enterprise interactions this year to-date have occurred on mobile devices. According to the , the annual increase in data traffic through 2026 will be at 25%. As a result, mobile technologies are constantly creating new opportunities for your business to become more innovative and productive. At the same time, organizations need a people-centric user experience across devices to meet their users鈥 rising expectations.

Today鈥檚 workforce is highly mobile already, spanning across industries and generations. Professionals use mobile devices to stay up to date, on top of business activities, and ahead of the competition by being able to take actions immediately — anywhere and anytime. All business content needs to be easily accessible and intuitively positioned. Just as with the apps you use daily to communicate and connect, the user experience for business applications needs to be as smooth, personal, and relevant.

Over the next few years, the sophistication and complexity of end-to-end processes will grow significantly. In this respect, 麻豆原创 solution integration is an important enabler to create business value. Just as important, it is crucial that people stay at the heart of our business.

With our new mobile experience announced at earlier this year, we aim to place the intelligent enterprise at the fingertips of every customer. With the launch of the 麻豆原创 Mobile Start app, we are taking a major step toward fulfilling that objective.

Using Mobile Technology with Hourly Employees: Balancing the Employee Experience and Wage Compliance Risks /2021/08/mobile-technology-hourly-employee-experience-wage-compliance/ Fri, 13 Aug 2021 11:15:08 +0000 /?p=187420 A recent called attention to the underinvestment in technology focused on improving the employee experience for 鈥渄eskless workers鈥 whose jobs are performed outside an office environment. This includes frontline and field employees in retail, manufacturing, utilities, healthcare, transportation, and other industries. A major finding in this study is the value of using mobile technology to support deskless workers.

Tactically this makes complete sense given that deskless workers do not sit in front of computers. But legally it could be problematic given the regulating many deskless employees. In essence, the same actions that improve the employee experience could also increase company compliance risks.

Most deskless workers in the United States are considered 鈥渉ourly鈥 or 鈥渘on-exempt鈥 workers. This means they are paid based on time worked and do not meet the U.S. government requirements. Hourly employees are subject to a to ensure they are paid fairly for their time. We are not lawyers and are not providing legal advice regarding how to interpret and respond to these regulations.* That said, the essence of these laws is if hourly employees spend time on a mobile phone doing work-related activities, then they should be paid for that time. While this may make sense on the surface, it can become complicated when one starts to consider issues related to tracking time spent doing work via a mobile phone while away from the workspace. How can an employer control wage costs when employees could potentially clock in at anytime from anywhere?

This dilemma places companies on a slippery slope of worker enablement versus compliance risk. Research and commonsense show the benefits of providing deskless workers mobile-enabled work solutions. Enabling them to do things like training, answer emails, schedule shifts, or enroll in benefits while in the field or outside their scheduled shifts can be enormously convenient for them. After all, this is how most salaried employees work, particularly since the rise of . Deskless employees benefit from and want access to mobile solutions. But doing the thing employees may want could create significant legal risks for the employer.

The following are a few ways we have seen companies handle this challenge. Note, we want to re-emphasize that we are not lawyers and these are not legal recommendations, rather practical ideas used by other employers.* Consult your corporate counsel when deciding what makes sense for your company.

  • Ensure your timekeeping policy prohibits 鈥渙ff-the-clock work鈥 and requires employees to report any time spent working, even if off-site or outside regular work hours. Non-exempt employees should certify their time records are accurate.
  • Provide deskless employees with company-owned mobile devices that they pick up and drop off when they start and finish their shifts.
  • Link mobile applications to the company time and attendance solutions so employees can only access the applications when they are formally on the clock.
  • Provide training to employees on when they should and should not use mobile applications. Reinforce this with guidelines and warnings that pop up in the applications themselves.
  • Monitor application usage and contact employees who appear to be using them at the wrong time or in the wrong way.

These methods may help resolve the apparent conflict between what employees want and what the law requires. At a more general level, ensure employees and managers approach this topic with a sense of understanding and mutual support. Managers should be sensitive to protecting the employee鈥檚 time by avoiding intrusions outside normal work hours. And employees should be aware of the legal risks the company faces if they spend time on work tasks without receiving compensation, regardless of how they may feel about it.

Like most aspects of employee experience, the solution is not found by pitting company needs against employee interests; it is found through employees and companies working together to support their complementary goals.

If you are interested in hearing more about the experience of deskless workers, be sure to listen to the exploring the topic of deskless workers or download the 聽white paper.

麻豆原创’s New Mobile Experience: The Intelligent Enterprise at Your Fingertips /2021/06/new-mobile-experience-intelligent-enterprise-fingertips/ Mon, 07 Jun 2021 12:15:01 +0000 /?p=185691 麻豆原创鈥檚 new mobile experience puts people at the heart of business processes — anywhere and anytime.

Over the past years, working styles have been drastically changing in many industries with mobile becoming the prevailing experience and a critical driver of process innovation. In the coming years, business processes will become increasingly automated and decisions will be made even faster without being in an office or at a desk. Data generated by intelligent, connected devices will reshape the core processes of many industries. The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated the transformation toward a digital and flexible way of working.

What does not change is that people need to be at the heart of processes and software alike, calling for experiences that truly matter to them and help them to get their job or tasks done anytime, anywhere, regardless of their work style. This is often overlooked when talking about business or IT processes in general. And that clearly needs to change.

Learn more about 麻豆原创’s new mobile experience powered by the Intelligent Enterprise.

麻豆原创’s are important enablers for creating business value. The Intelligent Enterprise, however, must be a people-centric system that adapts to business needs by providing contextually relevant insights to users, allowing them to make informed decisions in real time and from anywhere.

This year at , we introduce 麻豆原创’s new mobile experience and share a glimpse of our new native entry point app: 麻豆原创 Mobile Start.

Personal, Intuitive, Contextual, Delightful

Content, apps, and tasks need to be easily and intuitively accessible for users in one place so they can stay informed, take action, and dive into their work 鈥 no matter where they are or what time of the day it is. This experience needs to feel personal, relevant, and frictionless across all devices.

During the course of a workday, users encounter numerous so-called micro-experiences that differ based on their work and responsibilities. These individual interactions are the basis for completing daily tasks and can be repetitive or constantly changing. Think of situations like approving a requisition, helping customers, reviewing financial statements, submitting a leave request, or planning a trip.

To serve different role types best, 麻豆原创 is using value engineering to define a mobile-first portfolio that combines similar functionality of different apps and helps ensure the right user experience, including desktop and web experiences for infrequent mobile users as needed. Each work context is being addressed with pre-built integration, on-device intelligence, and highly tuned workflows and collaboration capabilities.

Take a warehouse clerk as an example. In this role, mobile solutions need to support all daily tasks, ranging from unloading to picking, packing, and shipping. Optimized business processes and workflows should minimize unnecessary user interaction steps by leveraging the latest on-device technologies like a Matrixscan to scan multiple barcodes at once, real-time insights through augmented reality overlays, and optimized routes through the warehouse with indoor navigation.

Micro-Experiences

Over the course of the day, people interact with multiple business processes and need to access data and applications from various systems. The touchpoints where technology and processes intersect to enable people to be successful are the micro-experiences that are essential for a superior user experience.

Starting Point of 麻豆原创鈥檚 Mobile Experience

On-device intelligence in every business moment provides the best of cloud intelligence (composing end-to-end processes) and the best of edge intelligence (total experience for mobile users in their unique environment), extending the value and reach of the Intelligent Enterprise to everyone鈥檚 fingertips.

Screenshots: 麻豆原创's new mobile experienceThe app is planned to for availability for iOS in August 2021, with an Android version planned for later in the year.

At the end of the day, people run the software we build. Therefore, we envision the Intelligent Enterprise as a people-centric system that provides contextually relevant insights, so informed decisions can be made in real time and from anywhere. This is only the start of much more to come.

Embark with us on a user experience journey that puts people at the heart of business software and processes — from start to finish.

5G Experiences Come to Life with 麻豆原创 /2021/05/5g-with-sap/ Wed, 26 May 2021 12:15:18 +0000 /?p=185575 The pandemic has been a catalyst for change, accelerating the demand for digital experiences and opening the way for new innovations across industries.

In retail, hit particularly hard in 2020, customer engagement is now largely defined by the digital experience of the consumer. As the economy reopens, consumers who remained loyal to their favorite brands throughout months of lockdowns now expect an omnichannel experience that seamlessly merges their online shopping preferences with a personalized and rewarding in-store experience.

Retailers face the additional challenge of having lots of assets to manage. In a grocery store, for example, there are freezers, coolers, and HVAC systems. At the distribution center, there are those same assets plus conveyor belts, forklifts, and more. Keeping all of this equipment running smoothly is critical to ensuring products stay fresh and are delivered on time.

Savvy retailers now understand that digital transformation is the key to managing a complex supply chain and providing a superior consumer experience that generates brand loyalty. Increasingly, retailers are looking to fifth generation () technology in combination with edge services as a powerful differentiator to deliver consumer experiences and leapfrog the competition to greater profitability. They are turning to 麻豆原创 to help bring these 5G experiences to life with 麻豆原创鈥檚 data platform and supply chain services.

5G Advantages

For intelligent enterprises, the over the current standard 4G include greater bandwidth for faster data processing; lower latency for greater responsiveness, which produces even greater benefits when combined with edge computing; and the ability to have more devices connected to the network simultaneously, which has huge implications for IoT-enabled sensors and smart devices. The greatest benefits come from 5G鈥檚 capacity for , , and .

GSMA Intelligence, the research arm of the global trade organization for the mobile industry, forecasts that 5G will bring connections by 2025 and a contribution of to the global economy between 2024 and 2034

Raising the Stakes in Retail

麻豆原创 now offers a solution architecture and monetization platform that enables retailers to gain efficiencies, provide amazing consumer experiences, and unlock new revenue streams with 5G. From the supply chain to the in-store experience, 麻豆原创 is helping the retail industry realize the exciting possibilities for the store of the future.

鈥溌槎乖 is uniquely positioned to serve as the glue pulling these pieces together 鈥 from the retailer, the brand, and a fintech 鈥 and covering that last digital mile,鈥 says Frank Wilde, vice president, Global Center of Excellence, 麻豆原创 Labs in Palo Alto, who has been working with 麻豆原创 customers to integrate 5G technology into their digital strategy. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 what we鈥檙e very excited about when we think about how is 5G coming to life.鈥

For example, when consumers enter a shop that leverages 5G, they will see digital signage for a more personalized in-store shopping experience. When they pick up a product like a box of cereal from a store shelf, they will be able to use their 5G-enabled smartphone to have an immersive experience while learning about the ingredients and product information. After placing that product in their cart, the store鈥檚 smart shelf system will trigger a reorder notification to a distribution center and later align the product to a planogram to ensure that new stock is displayed on the shelf correctly, ultimately freeing up the shop鈥檚 staff from low value-add activities. To cap off the outing, the consumer鈥檚 mobile fintech vendor will streamline the checkout with a frictionless 5G experience.

While consumers enjoy a state-of-the-art shopping experience, retailers can be confident that everything is running smoothly behind the scenes. For example, food spoilage is a vexing problem for many retailers that costs the industry billions of dollars a year. When freezers or coolers breakdown, the retailer has to remove saleable product from the store floor and arrange repairs which can take hours if not days, depending on the problem. Unless there is alternative cooling available, any food removed will be considered spoiled and must be thrown away.

麻豆原创 and 5G technology provide a solution. Internet of Things (IoT) devices for monitoring equipment can check the temperature, vibration levels, and other metrics of assets to provide a 24×7 health status to . If an anomaly is detected, an alert can be sent to the store operations manager in advance of the cooler breaking down. This early notification provides the time needed to either fix or replace the aging unit, saving thousands of dollars of lost food while keeping customers satisfied.

Any of these experiences also can be monetized as a service with the use of and , generating additional income for retailers and brands. 麻豆原创 customers can explore the offering and digital transformation as a service as a means to take control of their digital journey with the right technologies for their business.

The Electrification of Mobility: Challenges and Opportunities for Travel and Transportation Operators /2021/04/e-mobility-travel-transportation-operators/ Fri, 09 Apr 2021 12:15:46 +0000 /?p=184363 Electrification is not a new concept for the travel and transportation industry; railways have been electrifying infrastructures for decades, and urban transit companies have been operating light rail or commuter rail services for over a century.

Unfortunately, there is still a significant fleet of carbon-based locomotives and an entire fleet of trucks, buses, and utility vehicles utilizing carbon-based fuel and contributing to climate change across the globe. Meanwhile, in an adjacent industry, automotive manufacturers have almost unanimously promised to go electric in the coming years.

Where does that leave travel and transportation operators?

麻豆原创 recently hosted an industry forum about the with leading mobility operators and industry value chain actors. Featured speakers included:

  • Bruno Flinois, chief executive Officer of Clem
  • Neele Marie Hinck, sales manager of EWE GO GMBH
  • Erwin Guizouarn, chief executive officer of Evolution Energy
  • Joerg Ferchow, chief solution expert at 麻豆原创
  • Ulrich Scholl, global vice president New Mobility of 麻豆原创

Based upon the virtual event, we have compiled key takeaways and experiences on the use of the end-to-end energy ecosystem, as well as how leading practitioners are using technology to achieve strategic goals in the journey to fleet electrification.

The Evolving Value Chain of the Energy Ecosystem

The way corporations and citizens perceive the energy ecosystem is changing. More than ever, corporations like 麻豆原创 are aiming to achieve carbon-neutrality, with electrified mobility playing a strong role to support these efforts. Neele Marie Hinck shares that in partnership with EWE GO GMBH, 麻豆原创 has built more than 500 charging stations in Germany to support its corporate fleet of hybrid or electric vehicles. This trend will only continue as other forward-thinking companies aspire to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on the journey to carbon neutrality.

Outside of 麻豆原创, Clem Founder and CEO Bruno Flinois provides a global perspective about the ambitions of local authorities and large cities to de-carbonize their fleets. Clem is responsible for developing clean mobility to support public transport, offering subscription services and consultation of electric car-sharing and smart charging practices. The company started in 2010 by supporting one city with three charging stations, up to its current 600 charging points and 400 electric vehicles in more than 200 cities.

During a live event poll, 50% of the respondents said their organizations are early adopters of e-mobility with a single-digit of e-fleets, while the remaining responders did not yet have any operationalized e-fleets.

Tremendous growth in e-mobility offerings and adoption from both the public and private sector over the last decade demonstrates a promising future for the environment and the travel and transportation industry.

鈥淣ew Downstream鈥 Considerations and Impact

As e-mobility picks up momentum across the world, citizens and corporations alike have been asking themselves: Who should be responsible for developing the charging infrastructure and supporting other vital downstream considerations to support the end operators and/or drivers?

In Europe, a third-party approach similar to that of EWE GO is gaining traction, where an outsourcing vendor is responsible for simplifying the end-to-end mobility practices and operator support. This turnkey approach provides bundled mobility offerings related to knowledge, products, and services in order to increase the ease in which mobility is brought to life.

From a corporate fleet point of view, 麻豆原创 Executive Ulrich Scholl advises that we must look beyond the boundaries of e-mobility today: 鈥淓-mobility is an important building block of mobility in the future.聽 The need for mobility programs is driven by the demand of employees and should be made easy for all to take part in — including the unique needs of urban employees.鈥

To increase the adoption of e-mobility offerings, a simple end-user experience is vital, where end-to-end services are provided and integrated into the way organizations operate and define success. It is not just about charging vehicles; there is much more to consider to support the downstream needs of e-mobility today.

Technology鈥檚 Role to Support the Electrification of Mobility

Authorities and organizations have varied ambitions for sustainability and carbon neutrality endeavors. Some ambitions are driven by new legislation that mandates a shift in energy consumption, while others are being driven by factors such as cost, consumer demand, risk mitigation, and/or brand reputation.

To prepare for a new normal in mobility, Evolution Energie鈥檚 Erwin Guizouarn shares that most customers鈥 first question surrounds cost. While cost savings is not typically the primary reason why organizations leap to e-mobility, it is a vital consideration that should be thoughtfully approached to help ensure alignment with corporate strategy.

Guizouarn shares that the top four client questions about the adoption of emobility include: How much will we pay? When should we charge the cars 鈥 day or night? How can we hedge costs? And how can we minimize risk?

Software solutions can help manage end-to-end operations for charging, procurement, and contracts to effectively manage complexity, including monitoring energy consumption and mitigating risk. Flinois adds that 鈥淓verything with e-mobility requires technology, specifically software to manage information including visibility, authority, energy use, and more.鈥

For firsthand experience and recommendations for an integrated e-mobility approach, .

AI-Fueled Startup Turns Disrupted Supply Chains into Last-Mile Opportunity /2020/07/versafleet-tackles-disruption-how-intelligent-enterprises-outperform-the-competition/ Thu, 16 Jul 2020 12:15:01 +0000 /?p=176364 When Shamir Rahim, founder and CEO of VersaFleet, transformed his bio-medical startup into a transportation management system powered by artificial intelligence (AI), he never imagined being at the epicenter 鈥 in a good way 鈥 of a supply chain revolution during a worldwide pandemic.

As anyone desperately searching for toilet paper discovered earlier this year, the last mile is the crucial link in every supply chain.

鈥淲e wanted to provide our customers with a command center view of last-mile product delivery with cost and time savings,鈥 Rahim said. 鈥淎s our customers slowly open up again, VersaFleet is providing greater agility so they can quickly adjust logistics for maximum efficiency, whether people are out sick or returning to work, quarantines are lifted or imposed again, or operational hours shift at any time.鈥

Huge Time Savings Improve Customer Experience聽

Planners using VersaFleet鈥檚 software-as-a-service (SaaS)-based cloud platform can dynamically schedule, dispatch, and track deliveries. In the meantime, drivers send updates on completed deliveries in real time using a mobile app. The algorithm also factors in data from orders connected through an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system like .

鈥淚n a few clicks, planners can see which drivers are available, including their working hours and location preferences,鈥 Rahim explained. 鈥淭hey can select the most efficient route plan that uses the fewest vehicles traveling the least amount of distance for the highest number of items delivered. This reduces planning time from hours to minutes, saving valuable resources.鈥

Based in Singapore, VersaFleet serves customers primarily in Southeast Asia across many industries, including consumer packaged goods, food manufacturing, white goods, casinos, and environmental services. One customer鈥檚 recent go-live actually coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in Malaysia. It proved fortuitous for the global health and beauty retailer.

鈥淭heir implementation of VersaFleet couldn鈥檛 have come at a better time,鈥 Rahim said. 鈥淒espite working remotely from their respective homes, the planners were able to work collaboratively in real time. They were able to restock high-demand items like toilet paper and sanitizing wipes up to five times a day 鈥 something they had never been able to do before.鈥

The company has slashed daily planning time by 90 percent, from up to four hours down to under 10 minutes. In addition, by digitalizing proof-of-delivery, the retailer sped up billing processes four-fold. Instead of waiting for drivers to return from their routes with paper-based records, finance immediately receives delivery confirmation for same-day invoice processing. This kind of business agility cascades down to boost the customer鈥檚 experience.

鈥淐ompanies can reduce stock-outs, which is so important in meeting people鈥檚 heightened demands, especially with fast-moving consumer goods,鈥 Rahim said. 鈥淪everal of our other customers have improved customer service levels by 50 percent.鈥

Strong Roots in Logistics and Transportation

In hindsight, VersaFleet is a pitch-perfect reflection of Rahim鈥檚 career journey. As a teenager, he worked in his family鈥檚 logistics business and became a self-taught Web developer. Initially encouraged by his parents to pursue medicine, he studied bio-medical science at university and spent seven years in that field before launching a bio-medical company of his own. After seeing the logistics challenges his family faced, Rahim transformed his startup into a last-mile transportation management system. Above all, he is a fearless self-starter.

鈥淢y parents, friends, and their neighbors were having problems with logistics and asked me for help,鈥 Rahim explained. 鈥淲hen I fixed it, the word spread quickly, and VersaFleet was born.鈥

Hands-On Tutelage from 麻豆原创.iO Foundries Pays Off

VersaFleet participated in the recent Industry 4.0 accelerator program at 麻豆原创.iO Foundry Singapore. Rahim found the mentoring experience he had with 麻豆原创 experts in solution development, co-innovation, and go-to-market and sales strategies incredibly eye-opening.

鈥淪eeing 麻豆原创鈥檚 customer account strategies, hearing directly from people experienced in enterprise software co-innovation, customer procurement, and buying behaviors validated our approach and gave us new ideas,鈥 he said.

Rahim added that VersaFleet is integrated with 麻豆原创 S/4HANA.

Supply Chain鈥檚 Future Lies in AI and People

Multimedia Messaging Service: Enriching Simple SMS /2020/01/mms-enriching-simple-sms/ Tue, 14 Jan 2020 13:15:14 +0000 /?p=167478 Popularly known as MMS, multimedia messaging service was introduced way back in 2002 with Sony Ericsson T68i, widely believed to be the first MMS-capable cell phone.

It has come a long way since then 鈥 from being a new entrant in the mobile messaging industry to a widely accepted and utilized medium of communication and marketing for individuals and enterprises respectively.

While SMS messages drive a high open and response rate from recipients, MMS takes this to a new level with images, videos, and GIFs. MMS messages deliver a 15 percent higher click-through rate than SMS, and MMS content is four-times more likely to be shared on social media platforms. Customers are more likely to respond to an offer or coupon if received via MMS.

SMS is best suited for a short, concise message. However, MMS offers more options and variety, with a striking image or a catchy video to really grab customer interest toward a brand and the associated multimedia message.

  • 67 percent of users feel images are important for buying decisions

  • 63 percent of users value images over product details

  • 78 percent of customers prefer images of products

麻豆原创 MMS 365: Deliver Rich Content to the Right Audience

The 麻豆原创 Digital Interconnect group within 麻豆原创 works on several enterprise and operator messaging solutions.

is one such mobile service that helps enterprises deliver rich message content in the form of MMS to their customers. The product provides stable and high-performance MM7 infrastructure, which supports transmission of MMS messages from the value-added service provider (VASP), routed through the intermediate mobile operators, and ultimately delivered at the customer鈥檚 mobile handset.

Use cases that can be adopted with 麻豆原创 MMS 365 include:

  • Launch of new products or services: Provide beautiful images and videos of new products.
  • Sales promotions: Send attractive sale events invitations to a target audience.
  • Tickets: Provide a safe way to store tickets to events such as movies, plays, shows, amusement parks, and more, rather than carrying them physically.
  • Discount coupons: Send a GIF message to customers with details of the upcoming sale season and embed a coupon along with the message.

A typical 麻豆原创 MMS 365 message flow looks like the one shown below:

  • 麻豆原创 MMS 365 leverages the standard MM7 APIs
  • These APIs work as a link between the customer (VASP) and the end subscriber
  • 麻豆原创 MMS 365 provides the mobile termination delivery as well as acknowledgements for submitted messages.

Infographic: 麻豆原创 MMS 365 message flowSalient features of 麻豆原创 MMS 365 that enterprises can leverage include:

  • Ability to handle message volume up to 5 million messages per day
  • Message attachment size up to 5 MB
  • Among the highest in message throughput, 450 msg/sec.
  • Support a variety of media file types, such as video, audio etc.
  • Established in the U.S. market and expanding to Asia-Pacific region

This well-established service offering from 麻豆原创 Digital Interconnect has been able to support campaigns of enterprises during peak traffic seasons such as Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas, and New Year on a consistent basis. The estimated traffic volume has always been exceeded manyfold without the occurrence of message failure from customers.

麻豆原创 is growing infrastructure regularly and hopes to add more value-added features in the future. Some 麻豆原创 customers conducted their largest-ever messaging transactions through the MM7 platform in the 2019 Thanksgiving season.

The idea is to help enterprises give better service and timely information and offers to customers, thereby increasing the message quality andvolume, which in turn converts into monetary benefits for the enterprises. The more customers engage and experience excellent-quality MMS messages, the more they are inclined to make purchases or use the services being offered through these messages.
