While AI has undoubtedly become one of the hottest topics discussed in boardrooms around the world, business leaders today are racing to cut through the hype to translate all that potential into tangible business outcomes.

Accelerated AI journeys

In , ten partners were selected to pilot their use case with 麻豆原创 Generative AI Hub as AI foundation. Examples created included:

  • An intelligent supply chain solution from LTIMindtree which used GenAI to help participants make accurate delivery date predictions by considering historical shipment data, real-time weather conditions, traffic patterns, production lead times, and other relevant factors.
  • A project from DXC Technology Services LLC showcased GenAI’s potential in healthcare by leveraging data from a mobile application for sufferers of Parkinson disease to support doctors in making inquiries using either business or medical language.
  • Another use case from Inflexion harnessed the power of Generative AI Hub to build a web-based application to manage work that enhanced user experience through the use of a conversation-based chatbot.

Our second focus area is to use AI to streamline the processes partners use when creating technology solutions. software development tools harness GenAI to enable business and professional developers to create powerful applications quickly and easily, enabling partners to faster.

And thirdly, we are embedding AI into the heart of how our customers engage with our applications and services. is an AI copilot that provides a context-aware interface for managing and improving business processes across 麻豆原创 application suite, and makes finding an answer from an 麻豆原创 system as simple as just asking a question. Over time partners will be able to utilise Joule as a key interface between customers and their systems, redefining how they interact with processes and corporate knowledge in more natural language formats.

With rural population in decline, many communities in the Japanese countryside struggle to continue farming and harvesting their land.听听and听听in Japan launched a co-innovation project to help the town of Minano revitalize its community.

Like other industrial nations, Japan has been facing massive demographic challenges in its agriculture sector. An aging population and a lack of younger individuals entering the sector to replace them have led to farms being abandoned and fields lying fallow.

Japan鈥檚 government has realised the demographical issue, of course, as it touches not only the agricultural sector. To revitalise rural areas and stem the rural exodus, the government launched a national action plan.

In alignment with this action plan, 麻豆原创 Japan has joined the effort of encouraging rural communities to thrive by launching a co-innovation project with PSI, an 麻豆原创 partner, and the local government of the town of Minano.

Digitising the Agricultural Sector

The small town of Minano is located in the hills of Saitama Prefecture, about two hours from Tokyo. While the south of this prefecture is largely a suburb of the Tokyo area, the west, approaching Mt. Fuji, is still very rural and thinly populated. A former center of silk industry, the region on average is sunny and warm but can get lots of snow in winter.

鈥淔arms in this area are traditionally small and dispersed, located between forests and mountains,鈥 says Yoshihisa Horiguchi, chairman of MINNANO Future Create. 鈥淏ig supermarkets and retailers overlook them. Nowadays, the farmers cultivate rice and vegetables in small amounts to consume themselves, sell to their neighbours, or send to their children or grandchildren that live in cities.鈥

Since 1950, Minano has lost roughly one-third of its population, largely due to the decline of the agricultural sector. Today, it counts about 10,000 inhabitants.

鈥淵oung people often migrate to urban areas for better education and employment opportunities,鈥 Horiguchi explains. 鈥淲here 50 years ago, a farm may have relied on 20 young workers, now only two elderly workers are left.鈥

Digitisation is one obvious approach that may help prevent those areas from depopulating completely.

鈥淏ut while large-scale farms benefit from the economic feasibility of applying robotics and the like, it is financially and logistically challenging to apply such technologies to small-scale dispersed farms,鈥 Horiguchi says.

Horiguchi, the owner of an automotive parts manufacturing company, co-founded the local initiative MINNANO Future Create in 2019 to solve the challenges resulting from population loss. Its members range from elderly individuals to young residents, forming a diverse group of individuals, including pharmacists, architectural designers, and other professions, all living in the town.

For one of its projects, the Minano Digital Eco Farm, it partnered with 麻豆原创 Co-Innovation Lab.

IoT Solution for Monitoring Agriculture

The Minano Digital Eco Farm project aims to build a communication platform that connects farmers and urban residents as well as small-scale dispersed farms to major supply chains, forming a portfolio that coexists with existing large-scale farms. In alignment with the United Nations鈥 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the project will help overcome supply chain disruptions due to food shortages and crop failures due to abnormal weather, conflicts, disasters, and more.

For this vision to become a reality, Internet of Things (IoT) sensors were distributed in various locations and managed remotely from headquarters.

鈥淭he idea was to have an IoT solution running on 麻豆原创 Business Technology Platform (麻豆原创 BTP) that would help monitor all the agricultural processes,鈥 says Atsushi Minakuchi, senior solution specialist at 麻豆原创 Co-Innovation Lab in Japan.

麻豆原创 Co-Innovation Lab partnered with PSI, which brought in the Digital Material Controller (DMC), an all-in-one compact edge controlling server that enables easy setup of a ubiquitous IoT environment. And, due to the cooperation with 麻豆原创 Co-Innovation Lab, the DMC has also obtained 麻豆原创 certification.

鈥淢any IoT sensors lack cybersecurity functions,鈥 Mitsuhiro Yamazaki, senior advisor and former president of PSI, says. 鈥淗owever, by connecting sensors to a DMC with cybersecurity capabilities, it becomes possible to securely store locally collected data on the DMC, safely transmit to 麻豆原创 BTP, and accumulate, analyze, and utilize data from the DMC. This enables seamless and easy integration between the 麻豆原创 core system and the IoT system.鈥

鈥淐ollaboration with 麻豆原创 Co-Innovation Lab has significantly expanded the application possibilities of DMC,鈥 Masaki Fukui, former PSI Cyber Security Lab director and now with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication, says. 鈥淕lobal users of 麻豆原创 now could have the opportunity to easily implement and utilize a ubiquitous supply chain platform through the combination of DMC and 麻豆原创 BTP.鈥

Through integration with 麻豆原创 BTP, the deployment locations can then be displayed and monitored on a dashboard.

The idea is for citizens living in the city to enter a service contract with a rural farm or supplier and to connect via a technology platform to remotely monitor and support agricultural processes. In return, they receive part of the crops 鈥 freshly delivered to their homes in the city.

So far, two proofs of concept for farms have been completed between March 2019 and November 2022, as well as one proof of concept for a miso factory. Agriculture and rural industry are only two fields of application. Future projects could include schools, hospitals, stores, and elder care facilities.

Strengthening Rural Appeal for Inland Tourism

As a corporate social responsibility project, the Minano Digital Eco Farm came to life through the voluntary engagement of 麻豆原创 employees in Japan who supported the project on top of their regular work.

The project is supported by a government program unique for Japan, the so-called hometown tax payment, which makes it possible for citizens to choose and support the region they were born and raised in or a community they wish to engage with.

鈥淭he possibility of hometown tax payment is very popular among Japanese people,鈥 Hidenori Kurosawa, vice governor of Minano, explains. 鈥淭o us in rural regions, it seems that this played a significant role in creating an interest in the countryside. People want to get to know and support local towns.鈥

Indeed, the appeal of small, thinly populated communities surrounded by beautiful forest landscape hasn鈥檛 gone unnoticed by Japanese inland tourists.

Kurosawa says: 鈥淲e wish to make Minano appealing to visitors by offering return gifts that provide an experience 鈥 that allow visitors to come to the town, interact with the locals, and experience things that are unique to this place.鈥

The Minano Digital Eco Farm project aligns well with this strategy. Not only does it promote Minano鈥檚 charm but, by expanding initiatives, it addresses local challenges such as reclamation of abandoned farmland, increased self-sufficiency in food, reduction of CO2 emissions, and improved profitability in agriculture.

鈥淲e have great expectations that this initiative will contribute to addressing the town鈥檚 challenges and advancing the UN SDGs,鈥 Kurosawa states. 鈥淲e express our sincere gratitude to the volunteers from 麻豆原创 Japan who provided invaluable assistance in bringing the Minano Digital Eco Farm project to life.鈥

鈥淢INNANO鈥 means 鈥渇or everyone鈥 in Japanese and is pronounced the same way as the name of the town. Fukui from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication explains the idea behind that name: 鈥淥ne action can have multiple meaningful impacts. The issue of unseen small-scale dispersed farms facing economic challenges can be witnessed around the globe. By collaborating with 麻豆原创, we hope to inspire rural communities beyond our own prefecture, maybe even beyond Japan.鈥

AI has exploded into public prominence in the past 12 months with new tools and applications that showcase capabilities which might have once seemed more at home in works of science fiction.

Powerful and easy-to-use applications are being created faster than ever before thanks to new AI-enabled methods for streamlining and automating software development.

Developers around the world are already harnessing AI to empower people with information and insights and to help them tackle challenging problems. Eliminating the potential for negative outcomes is critical both for building trust in AI and for minimising the potential for harm. In fact, the massive impact that AI is having on software developments means that every software developer must become an AI developer.

But with great power also comes great responsibility, as despite AI鈥檚 many beneficial uses it has the potential to deliver negative consequences. These can arise when AI is trained using improperly sourced data, when privacy checks are ignored, or when biased training data creates outcomes that are detrimental to certain people.

If a project is deemed to be medium or high-risk, the project must go through further assessment stages, and additional precautions are taken. These might include making sure that personal data has been anonymised and that the project complies with relevant regulatory regimes.

This guidebook also asks developers to consider where human oversight will play a role in their projects, so that humans and AI work together and each project undergoes rigorous review. All of these considerations and review stages are built directly into the development process.

We also bring our principles to life through dedicated training programs that educate both our own developers and broader teams across the business on the concepts of responsible AI. This training includes modules on topics such as the foundations of trustworthy AI, how to understand the points of conflict that can arise when developing trustworthy AI, and the actionable steps that people can take to align their outputs to our values.

Embedded principles

The success of our program can be seen within our application suite, which already incorporates many aspects of responsible AI in ways that are helping customers achieve better outcomes, faster.

For example, 麻豆原创 human capital management application suite includes an AI-based tool to help hiring manager rapidly create job descriptions. This tool adheres to our principles by making sure that a human being is integral to the review process and ensuring that the privacy of personal data is maintained.

From the keynote stage to the showfloor, whether you were a dev, a customer, or a partner, all around 麻豆原创 TechEd Bangalore one phrase was repeated time and again: 鈥済enerative AI鈥.

The focus of more than 5,000 tech and business decision-makers was fixed firmly on AI and what it could do for their businesses, right now 鈥 the products 麻豆原创 has released through 2024, and what is coming next.

With responsible, reliable, and relevant AI that鈥檚 built for business, the view of the thousands of delegates at TechEd 2023 was that the future is looking bright

There was a wealth of incredible insight and opportunity at TechEd. In fact, it was a little bit like going back to school because the things that stood out to me were the ABCs.

A is for Automation

First, I was struck by the enormous potential businesses can realise through the power of enterprise automation.

With the help of AI, technology is helping developers and IT teams automate repetitive, mundane tasks and make better decisions, faster. By embedding generative AI capabilities into 麻豆原创 Build Process Automation, 麻豆原创 Signavio, and 麻豆原创 Integration Suite, we鈥檙e helping customers analyse, integrate, automate, and monitor business processes way more simply 鈥 and then immediately write the code to make those processes better. It鈥檚 that easy.

In my discussions with customers, it was clear that complementing process improvement and insights with enterprise architecture insights will be a real force for change in the future. Customers are excited to understand how to optimise and tune their architecture for the best performance across their entire IT stack.

But this isn鈥檛 future-gazing. Businesses are seeing real results today. Take Zuellig Pharma, one of Asia鈥檚 leading healthcare companies, providing pharmaceutical distribution and digital and commercial services across 26,000 direct outlets. Zuellig Pharma implemented best-in-class processes across its 麻豆原创 infrastructure, creating more than 180 automations using 麻豆原创 Build Process Automation to streamline and simplify its business.

TOKYO 鈥 SENSYN ROBOTICS, a provider of services and products using autonomous industrial drones, cameras, and smart devices, today launched , an integrated platform designed to automate large-scale plant maintenance operations at oil, gas, and power plants around the world.

SENSYN ROBOTICS is the first 麻豆原创 partner in Japan to develop a solution for 麻豆原创鈥檚 industry cloud portfolio, which delivers specialized applications designed to address specific industry needs. Built on the open 麻豆原创 Business Technology Platform, these solutions help customers rapidly adopt innovations as part of their technology landscape. SENSYN CORE is available now on , the online marketplace for 麻豆原创 and partner offerings.

鈥淓merging technologies give utilities and energy companies the potential to be safer, and more efficient,鈥 said Takuya Kitamura, CEO of SENSYN ROBOTICS. 鈥淲e aim to enable reliable inspections of plant facilities through the use of digital platforms and robotics, leveraging big data and analytics to recognize and address anomalies faster, ultimately driving greater reliability and boosting productivity.鈥

In 2021, 麻豆原创 partner SENSYN ROBOTICS was selected to participate in the 麻豆原创.iO Foundry Tokyo, 麻豆原创’s start-up accelerator program. This inspired a collaboration with 麻豆原创 to create SENSYN CORE, a solution that supports the maintenance operation of large-scale plants owned by oil, chemical, materials, gas, and power companies by integrating 麻豆原创’s facility maintenance solution, 麻豆原创 Asset Intelligence Network, which runs on the 麻豆原创 Business Technology Platform.

Using the SENSYN CORE platform and application services, 麻豆原创 Asset Intelligence Network retrieves stored building and facility information, selects the plant facilities to be inspected, and links that information to SENSYN CORE. Drone flight routes are then generated by SENSYN CORE using those insights, allowing the drone to autonomously start the inspection and collect data such as photographs of plant facilities. SENSYN CORE can detect anomalies or warning signs using the data collected, and adds commentary based on the nature of the detected issue. The results are linked to 麻豆原创’s asset management solution, and flagged to relevant personnel, who can then act as needed.

The solution also offers benefits for sustainability and environmental health and safety through increased use of automated maintenance rather than manned support, as well as reducing the number of trips and mitigating human error on plant facilities.
