Leaders from across Oman鈥檚 public and private sectors examine how trusted data, cloud technologies and AI can support the Sultanate鈥檚 digital transformation goals

MUSCAT, OMAN 鈥 7 October 2026 鈥 麻豆原创 on 6 October brought together government leaders, senior business executives and technology experts at 麻豆原创 Connect Day Oman as organizations across the Sultanate look to turn national AI ambition into measurable outcomes across their operations.

Sergio Maccotta, Senior Vice President, 麻豆原创 Middle East and Africa – South, delivering the keynote speech at 麻豆原创 Connect Day Oman 2026

The event took place as Oman accelerates its economic diversification and digital ambitions under Oman Vision 2040. Figures by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in January 2026 showed that the overall performance of the Government Digital Transformation Programme rose from 73% at the end of 2024 to 94% at the end of 2025. The Sultanate also attracted OMR 1.2 billion in communications and information technology investment during 2025, including approximately OMR 65 million invested in artificial intelligence.

鈥淏usinesses have had to absorb an extraordinary amount of change in the past few years, and that has made the ability to see what is happening and respond quickly much more important,鈥 said Sergio Maccotta, Senior Vice President, 麻豆原创 Middle East and Africa – South. 鈥淔or AI to make a real difference, it needs to understand the business. That means working with trusted enterprise data and within the processes where decisions are made. For companies in Oman, the opportunity is to put AI to work on real business problems, with the right data and context behind it.鈥

Across five dedicated business-function tracks: Data and IT, Finance and Spend Management, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and Customer Experience, the event examined how connected systems and embedded AI can improve visibility, simplify work and support better decisions. 麻豆原创 also outlined its vision for the Autonomous Enterprise, bringing applications, data and AI together so AI agents can work across business processes using trusted enterprise data and business context.

From Digital Ambition to Practical Outcomes

For organizations gathered in Muscat, the question is no longer simply whether to invest in AI, but how to apply it responsibly in ways that create tangible value in everyday operations.

Organizations at the event also shared their own experiences of how technology is changing their businesses. Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), which has worked with 麻豆原创 across its digital and talent development initiatives, highlighted the importance of combining new technology with industry knowledge and skills.

鈥淎I has the potential to change how we draw on the knowledge and experience within our organizations,鈥 said Waheed Al Hamaid, Head of Enterprise Solutions, PDO. 鈥淥ur relationship with 麻豆原创 provides an important foundation as we explore how AI can help our people anticipate challenges, make better-informed decisions and improve performance. In the energy sector, progress will depend on combining these capabilities with deep industry expertise and developing the skills to use them responsibly. That is how we can create lasting value for our industry and for Oman.鈥

鈥淭he decisions we make in the energy sector today will shape Oman鈥檚 economy for decades to come,鈥 said Yaqoob Al Hattali, Head of ICT, Energy Development Oman. 鈥淎I can help us understand complex challenges, explore different scenarios and make more informed choices about the future. Its promise extends beyond operational efficiency to supporting a more resilient and sustainable energy sector. Realizing that promise will require a clear purpose, responsible governance and close collaboration between technology and business leaders.鈥

鈥淎I opens the door for businesses in Oman to rethink how they create value, serve customers and pursue growth,鈥 said Abdullah Al Balushi, CIO, Zubair. 鈥淭he ambition should extend beyond improving what we do today to imagining what we could do differently tomorrow. That requires giving people the confidence and skills to experiment, question established ways of working and turn ideas into new opportunities. Organizations that build this capability will be better placed to contribute to Oman鈥檚 economic diversification.鈥

Held at W Muscat, 麻豆原创 Connect Day Oman included executives from sectors including energy and natural resources, financial services, public services, manufacturing, consumer industries and services. The program included keynote sessions, dedicated business-function tracks and live demonstrations of AI and cloud technologies.

麻豆原创 Connect Day Oman was supported by Diamond sponsor Deloitte, platinum sponsors NTT DATA, inflexion, indus novateur and apsolut, and gold sponsor Accely. Their participation reflected the importance of ecosystem collaboration in advancing digital transformation at scale.

Collaboration connects PDO鈥檚 Digital Innovation Program with 麻豆原创 training in generative AI and end-to-end business processes to support career opportunities for emerging Omani professionals

MUSCAT, OMAN 鈥 29 September 2026 鈥 麻豆原创 and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) are collaborating to develop Omani digital talent, connecting PDO鈥檚 Digital Innovation Program with the 麻豆原创 Young Professionals program (YPP) to help prepare emerging professionals for careers in technology consulting.

Alp Geckalan, Head of Digital Skills Center, 麻豆原创, addresses the audience at a Petroleum Development Oman event where 麻豆原创 YPP delegates marked the completion of their training

As part of the collaboration, participants from PDO鈥檚 Digital Innovation Program are expected to join the next 麻豆原创 YPP cohort beginning in November, continuing their development in enterprise technology and AI. The initiative was highlighted last week at PDO鈥檚 Digital Innovation Program graduation ceremony in Muscat, where participants in 麻豆原创鈥檚 YPP also marked the completion of their training.

鈥淏uilding local digital skills is important both for the young people entering the workforce and for organizations that need access to qualified technology professionals,鈥 said Waheed Al Hamaid, Head of Enterprise Solutions at PDO. 鈥淥ur work with 麻豆原创 gives Omani talent the opportunity to develop practical skills that reflect the needs of the market. Connecting our Digital Innovation Program with the 麻豆原创 Young Professionals program gives participants another avenue to develop their expertise and pursue careers in the technology sector.鈥

Delivered by the Digital Skills Center, the 麻豆原创 Young Professionals program equips recent graduates with the skills and 麻豆原创 certifications they need to start careers as 麻豆原创 consultants across 麻豆原创鈥檚 partner and customer ecosystem. In Oman, the latest graduates earned certifications in 麻豆原创 Generative AI development and in implementing end-to-end business processes for 麻豆原创 Business Suite, with hands-on training in 麻豆原创 Generative AI Hub and 麻豆原创 AI Launchpad covering prompt engineering, template management and workflow orchestration.

As organizations introduce AI into business processes, 麻豆原创 customers and partners require professionals who understand both enterprise applications and how AI can be applied within them. YPP is designed to help expand this pool of skilled talent while giving recent graduates a route into the 麻豆原创 ecosystem.

鈥淎I is changing the skills expected of technology consultants, and this needs to be reflected in how we prepare people entering the profession,鈥 said Alp Geckalan, Head of Digital Skills Center at 麻豆原创. 鈥淭hey need a strong understanding of enterprise processes as well as the ability to work with new AI tools. Working with PDO allows us to bring these areas together and give Omani graduates skills they can take into the workplace.鈥

PDO鈥檚 Digital Innovation Program develops digital skills among Omani talent through training, practical challenges and engagement with technology companies. Its inaugural cohort completed the eight-week program on September 22, with more than 5,000 training hours delivered by more than 40 trainers. 麻豆原创 was among the technology companies and institutions participating in the initiative.

The next 麻豆原创 Young Professionals program for Oman and other countries within 麻豆原创鈥檚 Fast Growth Markets cluster is scheduled to begin in mid-November and will run for two months. The program provides selected recent graduates with 麻豆原创 training and certifications and supports their introduction to career opportunities with 麻豆原创 customers and partners.

  • Global integrated energy company OQ leads the market to become 麻豆原创鈥檚 first private cloud customer in Oman

  • 麻豆原创 and OQ also plan collaboration with MTCIT on training programs to support the specialized skill development needed for Oman鈥檚 digital economy

  • Muscat, Oman 鈥 21 June 2023 鈥 Oman has reached a major milestone in its digital transformation with today鈥檚 announcement of the Sultanate鈥檚 first private cloud data center, launched by global technology company 麻豆原创 SE (NYSE: 麻豆原创) in alignment with Oman鈥檚 Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT).

At the same time, Oman-based global integrated energy company OQ signed an agreement with the global technology company to adopt RISE with 麻豆原创 and to run its 麻豆原创 solutions, including integrated enterprise resource planning (ERP) across all of its business assets, on the new in-country data center, making it the first 麻豆原创 Oman private cloud customer.

In the presence of H.E. Dr. Ali Al Shidhani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology at the MTCIT, the agreement was signed by Eng. Mariam Al Shaibani, Vice President of Integrated Digital Solutions at OQ, and Waheed Murtadha Al Hamaid, Country Manager, 麻豆原创 Oman.

麻豆原创鈥檚 data center will help to empower the Omani Vision 2040 strategy by accelerating innovation and cloud adoption and enabling companies across more than 25 industries to leverage the benefits of 麻豆原创鈥檚 cloud solutions with secure in-country data storage.

H.E. Dr. Ali Al Shidhani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology at the MTCIT, said, “The launch of a local 麻豆原创 cloud service that enables companies to securely store their information within Oman鈥檚 borders is aligned with the MTCIT鈥檚 commitment to creating efficient digital systems and solutions as set out in the four-track digital transformation program we announced last year. We believe the move will inspire new public and private sector digital transformation agendas as well as innovation as Omani entities start to leverage the benefits of cloud computing, including advanced technologies such as AI and machine learning.”

By moving to the cloud, OQ will be able to leverage the benefits of 麻豆原创 S/4HANA ERP, which include increased efficiencies, 360-degree visibility, and greater control over all operations. The solution streamlines and automates business processes and delivers real-time analytics, enabling data-driven decision-making to respond with agility to new opportunities and changes in the market.

And she concluded with: 鈥淐loud computing will enable us to take advantage of the latest advances in technologies such as artificial intelligence, as well as support our Sustainable Development Goals and maintain sufficient flexibility to continue to grow. In light of the rapid growth of the IT sector, there are countless opportunities to enrich the ways of working, innovating and collaborating, while there are many such opportunities that only come with cloud-based technologies.鈥

To support the country鈥檚 digital transformation, OQ and 麻豆原创 are also exploring collaborating with the MTCIT to develop emerging talent by training Omani nationals through in-country, global, and virtual programs covering technology, business, and behavioral skills. This effort includes participation in 麻豆原创鈥檚 Young Professionals Program in Oman, which has already trained 140 university graduates in core and emerging technologies. Integrated 麻豆原创 platform enables streamlined management of student information while S4/HANA optimizes university鈥檚 business processes and all staff benefit from SuccessFactors

Muscat, Sultanate of Oman 鈥 1 June, 2023 鈥 Oman鈥檚 National University of Science and Technology (NU) will be among the first institutions in the GCC to adopt an integrated, end-to-end higher education solution from global technology company 麻豆原创, with Omantel and Yash Technologies Middle East as the implementation partners.

The solution will enable faculty members and students to manage everything from curricula, schedules and attendance to grades and grants through an easy-to-use portal, while also optimizing the university鈥檚 business processes 鈥 including finance, HR and procurement 鈥 for its leadership.

In embarking on a digital transformation strategy, NU was seeking a flexible solution that could cover enterprise resource planning (ERP) functions as well as meet the needs of students and faculty across five campuses. Formed in 2018 with the merger of three well-established institutions, the university now has five colleges 鈥 Engineering; Medicine and Health Sciences; Pharmacy; International Maritime; and Advanced Technology 鈥 as well as the School of Foundation Studies. Its enrollment of around 5,000 includes foreign students from more than 30 nations. It also has international affiliations and research collaborations in 28 countries, including the UK and USA, adding to the complexity of its technology needs.

The student information component of the solution is 麻豆原创鈥檚 Student Lifecycle Management, which has been implemented at more than 125 educational institutions worldwide. Students self-manage their degree requirements from registration through to graduation on an online portal or mobile app. The system ensures transparency; is flexible to allow for changes in academic structure and processes; and is compatible across different curriculum-execution systems at affiliated global universities.

Dr. Ali Saud Al Bimani, Vice-Chancellor of NU said, 鈥淥ur vision is to be an internationally recognized university renowned for excellence in education and research, and driven by social values. As such, we aim to attract and retain the highest caliber of faculty and students, and to ensure that we deliver excellence not only in our education and research standards, but across the entire academic experience. 麻豆原创 Student Lifecycle Management is a user-friendly, robust and flexible software solution, able to accommodate the university鈥檚 growth and adapt to new requirements when needed. Integrated with ERP and human capital solutions from 麻豆原创, we have a complete and complementary package to ensure that we can meet the needs of all stakeholders, students and staff members.鈥

The university opted for on-premises deployment of S/4HANA to prioritize control and customization of the solution. This ERP system will streamline the university鈥檚 business processes and will provide key measurements, analytics and full visibility over all operations to support decision-making, transparency and compliance. It also supports standardization and automation of processes across departments to improve quality of the academic experience and reduce administrative efforts for academic staff.

Talal Said Al Mamari, CEO of Omantel said: “We are proud to partner with the National University of Science and Technology in this transformative initiative. As the implementation partner, alongside Yash Technologies, Omantel is committed to leveraging our technological expertise and local know-how to ensure the seamless integration of 麻豆原创’s comprehensive higher education solutions. This project aligns with our mission to empower institutions with innovative digital solutions, enhancing their operational efficiency and enriching the educational experience for students and faculty alike. We believe that the integration of these advanced systems will not only streamline NUST’s operations but also set a benchmark for digital transformation in the educational sector across the GCC.”

Alaa Jaber, Managing Director, 麻豆原创 Qatar, Oman and Fast-Growing Markets, said of the project, 鈥淭he implementation by NU of this cohesive solution will ensure all aspects of the university鈥檚 operations, including front-end and back-end, are fully integrated on one platform. NU will also benefit from improved accessibility for students and a focus on their preferences as well as easier and more extensive interaction between students and faculty. Moreover, the university can harness the talent management capabilities of SuccessFactors to develop and retain strong faculty members.听 Finally, there will be automated processes and seamless tracking of the university鈥檚 financial aspects such as course fees and payments, and real-time analytics on student trends across campuses. In addition, S/4HANA will streamline business processes, create efficiencies and reduce total cost of ownership.鈥

Commenting on his company鈥檚 role in the project, James Griffin, Managing Director of Yash Technologies, said, 鈥淲e collaborated closely with NU and 麻豆原创 to create a solution completely tailored to the needs of the university, students, staff and stakeholders, and befitting of an institution focused on creating the next generation of science and technology leaders in Oman. Yash Technologies has been delivering 麻豆原创 services to organizations globally for more than two decades, and we leveraged this expertise to help create an effective roadmap for NU. The resulting solutions will support NUST鈥檚 commitment to advancing the standards of Omani education and producing students who will make a positive contribution to the world.鈥
