At the heart of this initiative is the Business听Builders learning platform, developed by the ERPsim听Lab team at HEC听Montr茅al in collaboration with 麻豆原创听Canada. This game-based tool, which is available free of charge to university and college students, will integrate new research developments to enable users to acquire advanced data visualization skills more quickly and independently.

Making data analysis and visualization more intuitive

鈥淚n a world where companies rely massively on data to guide their decisions, the ability to interpret and visualize information effectively is essential,鈥 stresses Olivier听Caya, Full Professor of Information Systems at the School of Management, Universit茅 de Sherbrooke.

Yet many still struggle to fully exploit advanced analytical tools. Researchers will use the data it generates from user exercises to better understand how users behave when analyzing and visualizing data on the 麻豆原创 Analytics Cloud interface.

By studying users鈥 behavioral patterns, the researchers will identify common errors and design predictive algorithms capable of detecting and correcting inappropriate use of data visualization.

鈥淏y improving the understanding and use of data, we will help companies avoid costly mistakes,鈥 explains Th茅ophile听Demazure, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technologies at HEC听Montr茅al.

鈥淏y analyzing user habits, we will develop tools capable of anticipating and correcting these errors in real time, while testing new pedagogical approaches to make learning about data more intuitive,鈥 adds Patrick听Charland, Full Professor of Science and Technology Didactics at UQAM.

A strategic partnership with 麻豆原创 Canada

Canadian companies are embracing digital transformation like never before. A new 麻豆原创 Canada study, conducted in partnership with IDC Canada, indicates that digital transformation will be the most valuable business investment Canadian companies can make as they enter 2022.

The survey discovered a big rise in enterprises which have fully integrated digital strategies into their core business. Nearly 40 per cent of those surveyed indicated having this integration which is three times more businesses than in 2020. This robust digital shift was critical for Canadian organizations surviving the initial shockwaves of the pandemic, delivering business impacts across efficiency, cost reductions, resiliency, decision support and intelligence, sustainability, and customer and employee experience.

鈥淒igital transformation has been on the radar of Canadian businesses for years, but the last year has shown us that interest and value for it has soared,鈥 said Brian Moore, Chief Operating Officer, 麻豆原创 Canada. 鈥淲e are seeing that organizations will need to continue to fully integrate their operations in the coming year to remain competitive. Simply put, a digital transformation strategy is no longer a 鈥榥ice to have鈥 鈥 it鈥檚 a necessity for organizations to thrive. In 2022, we will see Canadian businesses step away from tactical, reactive enhancements in exchange for developing digital transformation strategies that will enable them to achieve new levels of success.鈥

Data further showed businesses realize digital transformation is necessary and valuable:

  • 75 per cent of Canadian enterprises planned on migrating all or some of their applications and data to the cloud in 2021.
  • 84 per cent of respondents highlighted that investment into digital technologies either met or exceeded their expectations this year.
  • 84 per cent of leaders in the digital transformation space are using technologies to make incremental and continuous improvements to their core business.

Customer experience was also at the heart of the survey with most organizations surveyed (81 per cent) indicating a positive impact on financial performance because of strong client experience. This is an increase of 20 per cent over last year鈥檚 survey.

Research found a need for integrated collaboration between IT departments and lines of businesses to achieve digital transformation ambitions, with 40 per cent of IT and LOB respondents favouring a fully integrated digital plan into their enterprise strategy. This will help Canadian organizations make progress towards becoming digital leaders.

鈥淎fter completing the sixth-annual 麻豆原创 survey, IDC expects the benefits of cloud will continue to outpace the challenges, resulting in Canadian organizations using cloud services extensively across enterprise applications and infrastructure,鈥 said Megha Kumar, Research Director, Software and Cloud Services at IDC.

(X史m蓹胃k史蓹y虛蓹m (Musqueam), S岣祑x瘫w煤7mesh (Squamish) and s蓹lilw蓹ta涩 (Tsleil Waututh)/Vancouver, BC) The First Nations Technology Council has launched a new project to advance reconciliation by decolonizing corporate systems and transforming the innovation, technology, and technology-enabled sectors both provincially and nationally.

鈥淭he Moving Beyond Inclusion: Partnerships and Reconciliation Project began in 2021 as a pilot program with five available partnership opportunities. 麻豆原创 Canada was the first organization to sign on, with Pagefreezer, Microsoft, and Bench Accounting following shortly thereafter,鈥 said Lauren Kelly, Director, Sector Transformation at the First Nations Technology Council. 鈥淲e鈥檝e seen that a lot of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion work does not have enough emphasis on cultural safety and systems change to make a tangible impact. As a result, we saw a need to do more than focus on inclusion and design actions grounded in reconciliation with an Indigenous lens. That鈥檚 how Moving Beyond Inclusion was born.鈥

鈥淭he work we’re doing is advancing reconciliation by creating corporate cultures and environments that make space for Indigenous worldviews, culture, and thought leadership. We are doing this work in service of Indigenous peoples to increase influence, leadership, and self-determination in the digital age so we can design what our digital future looks like for ourselves,鈥 said Denise Williams, Technology Council CEO. 鈥淚n the process, we’re tackling racism, and exclusion in the tech sector head-on, both on a provincial and national scale. The ripple effects of this will likely be seen and felt internationally. We鈥檙e disrupting the status quo.鈥

The Technology Council, along with partners Chastity Davis-Alphonse, Shelley Joseph, and Reciprocal Consulting, supports program participants in developing a strategic and coordinated, actions-based approach to identifying and addressing barriers that prevent Indigenous persons from accessing employment, having a positive experience, and thriving within the respective company. Both participants and the Technology Council are aligned in their vision of increasing opportunities and leadership for Indigenous peoples in the technology and innovation sectors, developing a deeper understanding of race bias in these sectors, and creating tangible responses to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission鈥檚 Calls to Actions while advancing meaningful reconciliation in a demonstrable way.

鈥淒iverse perspectives fuel innovation,鈥 said Cindy Fagen, Managing Director, 麻豆原创 Labs Canada. 鈥淲e joined the Moving Beyond Inclusion partnership with the First Nations Technology Council in acknowledgement of our responsibility to make reconciliation a focused pillar of our diversity, equity and inclusion strategy. Over the past few months, FNTC has guided us in examining our internal structures, policies and processes, and how they might be optimized for full inclusion of Indigenous people in our organization. We are excited to move from insights to action as we continue this journey alongside a community of technology industry peers.鈥

鈥淲hile Pagefreezer has been driven by the values of inclusion, diversity, and equal opportunity since its inception, we realize that there鈥檚 more work to be done. We need to better educate ourselves, and carefully listen to Indigenous community leaders to learn what we can do to ensure equity in the workplace,鈥 says Kaitlin Graves, Pagefreezer鈥檚 VP of People. 鈥淲e also believe that we can play a part in the larger movement. With the First Nations Technology Council Moving Beyond Inclusion project, we saw an opportunity to illustrate for the BC Tech community how smaller start-ups can take meaningful steps towards reconciliation. It鈥檚 our goal to foster an equitable and inclusive work environment in which Indigenous people are well-represented, succeed professionally, and feel at home.鈥

鈥淲e recognize that workplace culture is built by the actions of the people within it and see this program as a tremendous opportunity for our teams to learn and engage in reconciliation,鈥 explains David Seymour, Engineering Site Leader for Microsoft Vancouver. 鈥淲e see the Moving Beyond Inclusion partnership as an important way to move forward in our journey to honour, share, celebrate and integrate Indigenous peoples, traditions and worldviews.鈥

鈥淏ench is committed to the ongoing work of becoming an anti-racist and anti-oppressive company. And in the same breath, taking responsibility for the part we must play in the work of reconciliation and decolonization can feel daunting. We have so much gratitude and respect for the work and generosity of the First Nations Technology Council and the Moving Beyond Inclusion: Partnerships and Reconciliation Project. The Technology Council鈥檚 strategic and wise guidance are invaluable to us in these early days of what we know is a long journey ahead of us鈥攐ne we are unwaveringly committed to.鈥 鈥擨an Crosby, CEO of Bench Accounting

鈥淭he crisis caused by the pandemic affects downtown Montreal, but it has not made the city any less attractive, as shown by 麻豆原创鈥檚 decision to open a new office in Place Ville Marie. Our habits will be forever changed due to COVID-19 and it鈥檚 especially interesting to see this new office that will be designed to meet the needs of employees at the end of the pandemic. TORONTO, CAN 鈥 October 29, 2020 鈥 A new 麻豆原创 study conducted in partnership with IDC Canada discovered that companies that were well into their digital transformation, performed better through the COVID-19 pandemic, while companies without a robust digital strategy are being left behind.

The study found that while 95 per cent of enterprises surveyed had established a formal digital strategy, up from 85 per cent in 2019, most companies were at wildly different stages on their journey to becoming a digitally transformed 鈥渋ntelligent enterprise.鈥

Of the 17 per cent of Canadian enterprises identified as Intelligent Enterprise (IE) Leaders, 82 per cent have a digital strategy that is fully integrated into the core of the business or is complete and already producing significant results. At the other end of the spectrum, 98 per cent of Canadian enterprises categorized as IE Observers (14%) are only just beginning to build their digital strategies or executing on them. This divide in digital readiness has revealed a clear connection between COVID-19 resiliency and IE progress.

The study examined the impact of COVID-19 on organizations鈥 revenue, workforce, operational capacity, and facilities. While these core business functions have been impacted in two thirds of Canadian enterprises, IE Leaders have been more resilient, with 14 per cent of IE Leaders indicating they expect a revenue increase during the pandemic.

鈥淥ver the five years that we have been conducting this study with IDC, Canadian organizations have progressed well on their journey to becoming Intelligent Enterprise Leaders. However, the pandemic has reinforced just how vital a fully incorporated digital strategy is to a business鈥檚 ability to be agile and — 听ultimately resilient — in the face of crisis and major shifts in the way they do business,鈥 said Sam Masri, Chief Operating Officer, 麻豆原创 Canada. 鈥淭he silver lining is that organizations are realizing the value of technology and the need for a strategic approach to transformation. This shows promise in bridging the digital divide in Canada.鈥

鈥淧rior to COVID-19 we made some important decisions regarding our infrastructure that enabled us, through the 铿乺st few months of the pandemic, to be agile and nimble while we supported our Guests and Team Members,鈥 said Alicia Samuel, Vice President Information Technology at Longos. 鈥淭his meant that at the start of the pandemic, our e-commerce site was available to our Guests while we had unprecedented volumes of traffic on our websites, and we were able to shift quickly to introduce options such as 鈥淏uy Online Pick Up In-Store”. Our infrastructure decisions and strong executive leadership during COVID-19 enabled us to continue to service our Guests and take care of our Team Members.”

The new study also found key attributes that have helped IE Leaders remain resilient through the pandemic:

  • 49 per cent of IE Leaders are very willing to adjust their workforce mix to support digital initiatives, compared with only 7 per cent of IE Observers.
  • 91 per cent of IE Leaders believe it is very important to improve employee experience while improving customer experience, compared to 42 per cent of IE Observers.
  • 47 per cent of IE Leaders have a change management strategy that is fully integrated into the digital strategy, as compared with IE Observers, who either are still developing a change management strategy or do not have one at all.

鈥淎ccording to our survey, 78 per cent of IE leaders utilize digital technologies to make incremental and continuous changes to the core business,鈥 said Tony Olvet, Group Vice President, Research Domains, IDC Canada. 鈥淭hrough COVID-19, this has allowed IE Leaders to remain agile and prioritize projects that enable them to stay resilient over the crisis and provide a foundation that will support recovery and growth in the long run 鈥 such as building resilient supply chains. In contrast, IE Observers have largely been focused on more fundamental initiatives to shore up internal operations, such as planning and finance.鈥
