For over 5,000 employees in听, based in Athens, Greece, each working day begins with an important action to ensure the organization鈥檚 compliance with local labor legislation: they clock in on a personalized application powered by the听听蝉辞濒耻迟颈辞苍.

Eurobank is one of Greece鈥檚 largest employers, numbering approximately 6,500 employees and one of the four leading banks in the country, with 鈧81.5 billion in total assets under management and 500 office locations throughout Greece. In addition, it has 2,200 employees based at 120 sites in Luxembourg, Cyprus, Serbia, Bulgaria, and the UK.

As a leading employer in Greece鈥檚 banking industry, Eurobank provides its employees with a simple, modern method to accurately track their working hours. This not only ensures that employees are paid correctly but also helps the bank comply with strict new laws that require all clocked hours to be transmitted in real time to the Greek Ministry of Labor.

鈥淲e had to combine the strict legislation requirements along with a seamless and flexible work experience that we want to provide as an organization. We had to be very smart about this and we needed to do it fast,鈥 says Maria Tachataki, head of People Engagement and Communications at Eurobank and leader of the 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors solution implementation team. 鈥淲e achieved this using 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors Time Tracking in conjunction with听听(麻豆原创 BTP) in order to create that flexibility and achieve external connectivity.鈥

New Law Puts Labor on the Clock

In 2021, the Greek government enacted labor law 4808/2021, which requires organizations with more than 250 employees to provide daily 鈥渓ive鈥 monitoring of their employees鈥 work schedules, shift planning, and overtime. The introduction of a Digital Work Card means employers need to connect their time tracking system directly to the Ministry of Labor鈥檚 ERGANI II IT platform for real-time updates to ensure compliance with rules around the maximum weekly working time and minimum daily and weekly rest periods for employees.

麻豆原创 SuccessFactors Time Tracking enables Eurobank to maintain compliance with the new regulation 鈥 especially important as penalties can exceed 鈧10,000 per employee.

鈥淐ompliance is a reality of modern business. Eurobank demonstrates its leadership in this area with an innovative approach for advanced and sophisticated employee time tracking,鈥 comments听Andreas Xirocostas, managing director, 麻豆原创 Greece, Cyprus, and Malta. 鈥淎s laws and regulations evolve, it鈥檚 increasingly important for companies to have accurate data to meet compliance requirements. Companies that have visibility into their employee data will be best positioned to adapt to new regulatory directives.鈥

Unified HXM Suite for a Live and Interactive Experience

Since 2018, Eurobank has been using 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors solutions as its core HRMS for all HR processes and talent management operations. The bank has recently also introduced 麻豆原创 BTP as a solution for agility to help innovate and adapt to evolving business needs.

Harnessing the power of听听has enabled Eurobank to deliver an inspiring employee experience and empower employees with tools to improve their daily work. With its people-first approach, Eurobank has achieved impressive milestones for employee engagement among its active 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors users, including more than 775,000 training hours logged and 13,000 performance assessment forms completed. By utilizing 124 interfaces or APIs, the 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors portfolio can effectively integrate data with other Eurobank IT systems and applications.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a very live and interactive experience for our employees, and time tracking with digital punch clocks is the cherry on top,鈥 Tachataki says. 鈥淪ince we had the entire suite of 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors, implementing the time tracking solution was an obvious choice.鈥

Learn more听about how Eurobank puts people at the center of business with 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors solutions.

Prioritizing Data Accuracy, Integration, and Employee Experience

Most importantly for Eurobank, the new time tracking solution needed to be reliable, accurate, and seamlessly integrated with other HR processes. The bank required a high level of data accuracy to comply with Greek law and perform payroll processing on a third-party system.

鈥淲e are in the process of digitizing a lot of our workflows and a lot of our systems and services in the bank,鈥 says Tachataki, who underscores the attention given to ensuring an employee experience that accommodates shift work, remote work, and preapproved overtime and flex time 鈥 in addition to providing seamless work schedule management and optimization. 鈥淲e wanted to go to a modern platform where we could give both the employee and the manager the ability to manage their schedule much more efficiently and transparently.鈥

The HR administrator鈥檚 experience also needed to be streamlined for efficiency and to reduce administrative burdens. 鈥淲e wanted it to be simple,鈥 Tachataki says. 鈥淲e wanted to have reporting and analytics based on that to support decision-making processes.鈥

Change Management for Employees Enhances Success

Eurobank went live with 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors Time Tracking in January 2023, concluding a six-month project that included an intensive blueprint phase and near-daily interactions with the Ministry of Labor. Working within 麻豆原创 BTP, the IT team customized an interface to the solution, so the data collection adhered precisely to the requirements of Greek law. Altogether, the team developed 28 interfaces to facilitate the data exchange with the ERGANI II system.

Clear communication to the employees was an important contributing factor to the project鈥檚 success. 鈥淲e provided a lot of training and support before we went live,鈥 says Tachataki. 鈥淲e went through a change management pathway with our employees to allow them time to adapt to this new reality. We continue to improve the module through the 麻豆原创 upgrades and through our own intuitive creativity with the platform鈥檚 abilities.鈥

When employees clock in or clock out in 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors Time Tracking, they see a clean, simplified user interface that facilitates quick action. They have an overview of their schedule 鈥 including flex time, approved overtime, and estimated leave time.

鈥淭he amazing results that Eurobank has achieved by using 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors Time Tracking for compliance show why agility is the watchword in business today,鈥 says Maryann Abbajay, chief revenue officer, 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors. 鈥淲hen faced with new legal requirements, Eurobank reached into the 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors tool kit and adapted a solution to meet compliance 鈥 and it did it while keeping employee experience in focus.鈥

Truth in Data

As a result of providing an empowered employee experience through self-service, Eurobank logs over 5,000 clock-ins and clock-outs per day. 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors Time Tracking supports the company to make 131,000 API calls to the Ministry of Labor鈥檚 ERGANI II system each month.

Despite a high level of employee engagement, Eurobank is realistic that it is not possible to have 100% daily compliance among 6,500 employees, and some discrepancies have had to be clarified. Fortunately, this is an area where 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors Time Tracking supports the organization with data accuracy and transparency. 鈥淭he point is to have a managed inconsistency,鈥 says Tachataki, who explains, 鈥淚f there is an inconsistency, you need to be able to justify it so you don鈥檛 get fined and have a system that very accurately logs employees鈥 clock-ins and -outs and supports your case. 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors can help us do this.鈥

November 30, 2022. It鈥檚 a date that will go down in history. It鈥檚 not just the day that launched publicly. It鈥檚 the day that artificial intelligence (AI) effectively went mainstream 鈥 and the world hasn鈥檛 stopped talking about it since. It has dominated news cycles, generated hype and created more buzz than any technology in recent memory.

The Big Question for Customers

Practically every customer I meet right now wants to know what the AI boom means for their businesses. How can they use AI to improve their productivity and decision-making? What can they automate to save costs? What will the impact be on the workforce of the future? What are the moral and ethical issues around AI?

One of the world鈥檚 leading AI experts, , knows more than most about the potential impact of AI on our businesses and our lives. Her background is in geopolitics, where she鈥檚 seen first-hand how technology is emerging as a massive influence at global level. So, when she first encountered generative AI in 2017, she knew it was a game changer, and founded a generative AI advisory firm. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to meet with her earlier this year.

Her view is simple: generative AI is a vehicle that’s going to change the future. ChatGPT is only the very beginning. The outputs are going to become significantly better, and they will change every business in the world. But what鈥檚 important to realise is that it鈥檚 not only about improving efficiencies within the enterprise. It鈥檚 going to fundamentally change labour markets and entire economies, which raises far bigger philosophical questions about how we use AI.

What鈥檚 interesting is that AI itself is nothing new. At varying levels of sophistication, it鈥檚 been built into the systems that are weaved into our everyday lives for several years. From healthcare, to self-driving cars, from financial investments to marketing and from smart assistants to manufacturing robots, embedded AI automates, conserves resources, predicts, and allows for new business models to be developed and actioned.

The Game Changer 鈥 Generative AI

Generative AI is a game changer, though. Unlike previous 鈥渕ainstream鈥 forms of AI, which are mostly about labelling or categorising data, generative AI is about generating or creating new data in practically any digital format. And while we have barely dipped our toes into what it can do, what is clear is that generative AI has the potential to reshape society and business in ways we are only beginning to understand. In fact, Ms Schick predicts that over 90% of online content will be 鈥榗reated鈥 by AI by 2030.

The fear is that left unchecked, AI can become a tool for dodgy practices, like deep fakes. Or that it ends up creating an even bigger economic and digital divide between developed and emerging markets. That鈥檚 why it鈥檚 critical that we put guard rails in place. Regulators are already turning their attention to AI, with the EU preparing a framework on AI that puts an obligation on those who use it 鈥 and that鈥檚 going to be all of us – to do so in a way that is trustworthy, responsible, and ethical.

What鈥檚 interesting is how big tech firms have responded to generative AI in the past six months. They were all working on AI projects anyway. Then suddenly, Microsoft made a $10 billion investment into and brought ChatGPT into its operating system and search engine. Google itself has strategically reoriented, boosting its AI research capabilities and building its own chat bots.

麻豆原创 is collaborating with Microsoft, IBM and others on a range of joint generative AI offerings to help solve customers鈥 most fundamental business challenges.听It recently also announced investments into three AI startups – , and .

Practically every tech company is releasing models into open source in the belief that they’ll be more influential in the long term because these models will become a fundamental part of the entire ecosystem. These are companies that move markets 鈥 and they鈥檙e all vying for a slice of the wider enterprise data market.

The question that businesses are increasingly asking is how they can have a ChatGPT-like product in their company, trained on their own proprietary data for their own use cases. Think customer service, sales, marketing – everything can have some layer of automation. The number of use cases that is emerging is simply astounding.

It鈥檚 not just highly skilled engineers using generative AI to accelerate design of aircraft components. 听It鈥檚 companies using their own data to write product descriptions in their brand voice and creating SEO copy. It鈥檚 biotech companies that are enabling new drug discoveries. It鈥檚 any business being able to run both structured and unstructured data through a generative model that can extract insights for you. The impact is profound.

Of course, the big questions remain. Is AI going to augment me or automate me? It’s going to be both. Will the machines get so intelligent that they take over and we lose agency? Hypothetically that’s possible, says Ms Schick. But it鈥檚 not realistic. And by focusing on that narrative, we forget that we have agency. We get to decide how these technologies are integrated into our companies and society.

鈥淚’m not a pessimist. Because I think the top line here is change. And I think the story of our lifetime is that we’re going to experience more tech-led change than the entirety of humanity that came before us. So ultimately, this isn’t a story about technology. This is a story about humanity,鈥 she says.

And that鈥檚 something we should all be trying to embrace.

ATHENS 鈥 In line with its growth strategy, National Bank of Greece (NBG) recently chose 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors solutions to drive its HR transformation.

鈥淎t National Bank of Greece our people have always been at the center of our business strategy 鈥 therefore, as an organization, we prioritized the transformation of our HR function in order to drive innovation and flexibility, while improving operational efficiencies and providing exceptional employee experiences and engagement鈥, said Evi Hatzioannou, the National Bank of Greece鈥檚 CHRO.

At the heart of the transformation of NBG鈥檚 HR IT landscape is the installation of a new HR 鈥渃ore鈥 system to allow for better talent identification, design of customized learning and development opportunities and 鈥 more broadly 鈥 the modernization of HR processes to better and more efficiently serve the bank鈥檚 more than 6.500 employees.

With the support of Deloitte Greece, particularly through its Human Capital division as an integral part of its Consulting services, a SaaS partner, with a track record of successful collaboration with the Bank, NBG adopted 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors Employee Central, Performance & Goals, Recruiting, Onboarding, Succession & Development and Learning modules, all within only 18 months.听 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors was selected for this ambitious project due to its simplicity in data hosting, continuous access to worldwide best practices, and the fact that its solutions are well-integrated.听 Also, due to its Cloud infrastructure, NBG ensures continuous HR practice innovation for its workforce in a smooth and consistent manner, while the Bank鈥檚 IT function does not have to focus resources on strenuous technical implementations, but can instead prioritize activities that generate new value for the Bank.

The first major benefits of the new system are already visible, as adoption and transition from legacy systems has been seamless, increasing reporting transparency and significantly reducing data processing effort and times.听 Meanwhile, HR processes have been simplified and process performance enhanced.

鈥淲e鈥檝e seen numerous efficiency benefits from our new solutions鈥, said Konstantinos Nakos, Director, Group HR Strategy & Organizational Effectiveness at the National Bank of Greece.听 鈥淪ometimes, these are the result of many small changes that, nonetheless, amalgamate to make a great difference in terms of time and cost. This allows us to effectively redeploy our resources towards more value-adding HR activities.听 In parallel, we are gradually redefining the employee experience, understanding our people鈥檚 needs and wants so that we can create an environment where they feel connected, supported and empowered鈥.

鈥溌槎乖 SuccessFactors replaced various legacy HR systems in NBG, simplifying its IT infrastructure. Its SaaS delivery model has reduced deployment time, IT support and maintenance costs, while it has offered the scalability and flexibility required in a rapidly changing business environment. In addition, 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors meets the high security and compliance standards required for the banking sector鈥 commented Zoe Delaki, Group Business IT Applications Division Director, National Bank of Greece.

鈥淎t Deloitte, we recognize the transformative power of technology in revolutionizing HR processes. Leveraging 麻豆原创 tools in our partnership with the National Bank of Greece, we have redefined the way we empower human resources. Together, we are shaping a future where HR strategies and digital innovation converge, empowering organizations to thrive in the era of intelligent HR management. We are more than delighted about this partnership鈥, said Yiorgos Fragkos, Partner, Consulting, Human Capital Leader at Deloitte Greece.

鈥淲e are delighted to be a partner of the National Bank of Greece in this HR transformation project.听 We are reimagining together how the organization manages and develops its people to meet the emerging demands of the future of work,鈥 commented Andreas Xirocostas, Managing Director, 麻豆原创 Greece, Cyprus and Malta. 鈥淲hen people have the opportunity to work on what they鈥檙e passionate about, they are more engaged, perform at a higher level, and push the organization to deliver significant business results.鈥

]]>
The business world has embraced accelerated digital transformation as a result of the pandemic, but nowadays, employees are eager to restore some physical ways of working that are beneficial to their company, such as travel. This is reflected by which reveals that 46% of employees believe it is better to build relationships from in-person connections and 41% highlight increased productivity when meetings are face-to-face.

However, considering the turbulent economy, Gabriele Indrieri, VP & Managing Director for 麻豆原创 Concur EMEA South, points out that it is vital for businesses to make efficient choices, especially when it comes to resources. 鈥淚t鈥檚 for this reason more decision-makers are weighing up the cost-benefit of corporate travel and looking for saving potential.鈥

To assist businesses in reaping the benefits of business travel while protecting the bottom line, he outlines five tips to consider:

  1. Minimize errors to reduce overspending: If employees manually enter and itemize expenses, they are more at risk of making costly mistakes. Therefore, investing in smart technologies, although initially can be costly, will mitigate this and instil long-term cost and time efficiencies. For example, tech can pull individual charges from credit card providers automatically or integrate charges and receipts directly from hotels, airlines, and rental car companies, or uploaded them as photographs by travellers 鈥 ultimately eradicating the room for error.
  2. Enforce practical policies: Only one in three employees believe that their company鈥檚 travel and expense policy is well-fitted and fair, according to . Not only do expense policies need to streamline processes, but they also need to align with the company鈥檚 culture. Therefore, finance teams must consider how policies will work in practice, as it鈥檚 unlikely that they will suit every employee, meaning that flexibility will need to be built into their approach.
This could be implemented through platforms that enable administrators to flex policies by creating multiple versions within the system that can be applied to different employees based on individual factors, departments, and offices. It is then essential to continually check whether the policies remain suitable for the workforce as time goes on. Regular automated audits are the best way to do this for overall, accurate visibility and to prevent finance teams from manually sifting through every single transaction.
  3. Communicate policies regularly: Often when employees overspend, it鈥檚 because they are not aware of the budget allowance. This can be mitigated by ensuring a clear budget and that all employees are working within the expense policies laid out.
However, only a third of employees say that their company鈥檚 travel expense policies are easy to understand with another only another third of employees taking action to avoid unconscious fraud. 听By frequently checking their policy for updates, employees will know the importance of facilitating travel bookings. In addition, professional travel booking solutions that make travellers aware of the bookings being covered by the company鈥檚 policies or not will reduce the number of potentially costly out-of-policy bookings and allow for peace-of-mind.
  4. Streamline VAT reclaim: Many companies still fail to reclaim VAT, even though they lose a large amount of money as a result. This can be attributed to the use of inefficient tools and the fact that processing VAT claims and ensuring compliance can be complex. Using a solution that removes the need for businesses to manage their VAT reclaim manually can lead to significant time and cash savings while minimizing compliance issues.
  5. Rely on data when negotiating rates: Discounted prices add up to real savings. But, to negotiate rates, you need to track spending with each supplier. This can be challenging without the right tools to sort through inconsistent spending data that is captured from credit card feeds and other sources. Plus, when employees book outside of the approved system, those expenses may not even be captured. As such, if businesses harmonize their spending data from all booking sources, they will be positioned to demand the best prices.

鈥淭he pandemic has transformed the way we work, with virtual communication and digital tools to collaborate becoming the norm. However, it’s clear that there’s no substitute for the kind of in-person connections that business travel enables,鈥 says Indrieri. 鈥淏y adopting a strategic approach that takes into account the cost-benefit of each trip, businesses can take advantage of this by creating a cost-efficient travel program that allows employees to build valuable relationships and maximize productivity.鈥

鈥淣ow is the time to take action and plan for the future, with a focus on sustainable, cost-effective travel that enables businesses to thrive,鈥 he concludes.

听is an Italian financial services holding and the first insurance company in the damages sector in the country, based in Bologna.听With more than 2,400 agencies, the group has almost 12,000 employees, serving 15.5 million customers with the help of approximately 20,000 agents and sub-agents.

The Challenge of Master Data Management and Governance

Establishing a consistent and harmonized master data management strategy across all areas of an organization helps simplify the management of enterprise data and increase the accuracy of information.

This was true for Unipol. To channel customer and supplier master data change requests from a large group of employees to a limited number of authorized business users, the company looked for a centralized solution. This new solution would provide a real level of automation to capture, control, and distribute incoming requests and reject incomplete requests simultaneously.

Before the project started, change requests came in via e-mail or as Word documents, thus leading to an unreliable process with unnecessary interactions and long waiting times until the numerous requests and questions could be processed and answered.

The Solution

Unipol鈥檚 trusted, longtime IT partner Qintesi already managed existing 麻豆原创 systems within the organization and had a proven track record of using听麻豆原创 Business Technology Platform (麻豆原创 BTP). The experienced partner implemented a centralized app to manage the creation and modification requests by authorized users. During the design phases of the solution, the project team worked with 麻豆原创 experts and听.

Built with 麻豆原创 BTP, the new solution manages the master data creation and change requests centrally, saving time, reducing error rates, and making the entire process transparent and easy to manage.

Thanks to the new solution, the Unipol Group has seen a significant decrease in the required time to handle requests. The consistency and completeness checks with which the applications have been designed help guarantee the quality of the entered data. For a new master data entry or change, the processing time of authorization has been reduced, since only selected fields are now subject to an authorization flow, streamlining the process while maintaining the necessary level of control.

Within the first phase and along the agreed timelines, the project team went live with about 80 users. During the second phase, the new solution was rolled out to several hundred users of the group.

鈥淭he project has enabled Unipol Gruppo to further move towards a unified master data management process. The organizational model we adopted was supported by a portal in which to channel the checks deemed necessary to ensure correct maintenance of the database,鈥 said M. Alessandra d鈥橝lfonso, head of Unipol SAI Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.

鈥淚n this project, the challenge was to add an authorization workflow to an already complex process concerning Unipol鈥檚 business partner master data. Thanks to 麻豆原创 BTP, the new process has become simpler, faster, and can ensure very high data quality. We are very pleased that we could deliver added value with 麻豆原创 BTP by simplifying complex processes, extending core capabilities, and integrating heterogeneous systems quickly,鈥 commented Marino Coletta, senior client account manager at Qintesi.

鈥淚ntelligent enterprises are leveraging advanced technologies to effectively utilize their data resources and achieve desired outcomes faster and with less risk,鈥 said Adriano Ceccherini, chief operating officer at 麻豆原创 Italy. 鈥淭o regulate the lifeblood of a new IT infrastructure, organizations need a rigorous master data governance system that enables seamless integration and quality control. This was the spirit of the innovative project with Unipol Group.鈥

The Next Steps in Working with 麻豆原创

The project is currently being rolled out to other group companies that have not yet adopted the new process and solution. By involving all the group鈥檚 companies, even those with diversified businesses, the apps will be enriched by additional features to meet their respective business needs and realities.
