Kathy Gibson is at Saphila Transcend in Sun City 鈥 The world around us is evolving faster than ever. In a chaotic and unpredictable environment, and with new technologies emerging almost daily, industries are being reshaped, and customer expectations are shifting.

At the same time, organisations need to be very clear about the way they want to go forward, Winkler adds. 鈥淐larity is needed now more than ever 鈥 not as a choice, but a necessity. Be clear about your transformation and about what you want to achieve.鈥

Winkler explains that is the foundation on which the company has built its technology and transformation ecosystem.

As the foundation that underpins Business Suite, Business Data Cloud, and Business AI, BTP allows organisations to integrate and extend business applications faster; create business-relevant apps; and innovate and accelerate with AI.

Winkler points out that it is a unified platform available as public cloud or multi-cloud that harmonises 麻豆原创 and non-麻豆原创 applications, empowering customers and partners to innovate.

BTP is powered by more than 90 applications and services.

There are currently 33听000 customers on 麻豆原创 BTP, including 66% of the largest companies in the market.

New on 麻豆原创 BTP is better integration between 麻豆原创 Build and 麻豆原创 S/4 HANA. The company has also introduced additional AI features with Joule for Developers.

In addition, 麻豆原创 is continuously adding BTP to new data centres and regions. It has already built out to seven new regions this year, with more on the cards.

There is more functionality for users and more AI available for 麻豆原创 S/4 HANA Cloud.

More features are available in 麻豆原创 Business Data Cloud (BDC), and 麻豆原创鈥檚 Integration Suite makes it easier for customers to bring their ecosystem together.

The new releases are especially relevant for developers.

麻豆原创 Build now offers the ability to create Joule Skills and AI Agents 鈥 Joule Skills where the process path is known, and AI Agents where it isn鈥檛.

鈥淣ow, developers are able to enhance Joule鈥檚 out-of-the-box capabilities to support organisation-specific workflows,鈥 Winkler says. 鈥淭hey can deploy, monitor and manage their own Joule Skills in 麻豆原创 Build. 鈥淎nd, with the agent builder in Joule Studio they can build their own customised AI Agents.鈥

There are also new features to help ABAP developers 听improve their efficiency. 鈥淚n the ABAP cloud environment, we have released intelligent features that help developerss with testing, and Joule will even offer recommendation to improve code.鈥

Further enhancements improve developer efficiency in 听麻豆原创 HANA Cloud, helping them to make smart decisions while handling large amounts of interconnected data to achieve meaningful outcome.

Picking the Right Champions to Win the Game

Gaming is something that keeps inspiring me. I鈥檓 amazed by the speed, accuracy, and level of concentration of professional players. It鈥檚 impressive how this industry has evolved and grown over just a couple of decades.

commands an imposing presence in the esports world, boasting over 160 professional players across more than 15 different games and a staggering fan base of over 10 million followers on various social media platforms. With more than 75 premier events won, Team Liquid is one of the most successful organizations in competitive gaming.

The game with the highest viewership and extensive fandom is League of Legends. Team Liquid successfully competes with their League of Legends team, which recently won the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) 2024 Spring tournament.

In League of Legends, the goal is to create a strong and balanced team consisting of five characters, called 鈥渃hampions,鈥 in order to outplay and outsmart the opponents during the game by being one step ahead of competition.

Teams participate in a pre-game draft process to select champions before a match. This involves banning and picking champions from a pool of 166 choices to create a strong team.

Champions are the in-game figures controlled by each player. Each champion has particular skills and areas in which they excel. Putting the champions together allows the team to play in various strategic directions to win the match.

After choosing five champions (鈥減ick鈥), each team is also allowed to remove five champions from the pool (鈥渂an鈥). Those players cannot be picked by either side. This can be utilized to remove specific parts that would otherwise counter a strategy or hinder the other team from playing their favorite style and/or composition.

Esports teams and their analysts need to prepare for the draft process, as it requires knowledge of the opponent鈥檚 favorite picks and strategies. Imagine a five-a-side dodgeball match, but before the match begins, the five players from each team draw their champions from a pool of 166 individual champions.

With bi-weekly updates to the game (鈥減atches鈥), especially affecting the champions as well as indirectly teams practicing and developing new strategies, competitive League of Legends is an ever-changing game. It creates the need to constantly adapt your draft to a new environment, to analyze both your own and the opposing team鈥檚 behavior.

Furthermore, the nature of the draft process and the varying strategies of opponents make accurate predictions difficult. Esports teams have only a week to prepare for the game and gather knowledge about the other team鈥檚 favorite champion picks, strengths, and weaknesses.

Previously, Team Liquid coaches prepared draft scenarios based on manual analysis of the opponent team鈥檚 draft behaviors and champion preferences. However, the challenge was that manual analysis is done before the draft, with the best potential pick or ban changes based on the decisions of the other team. Additionally, the sheer number of potential matches to choose from and the different strategies employed by opponent teams make manual draft prediction very difficult.

What if Team Liquid could analyze in seconds the best choice for upcoming drafts, including picks and bans, while considering more than 6,000 professional esports matches from the past year? Basis for AI-driven automation

Robotisation and automation are key spearheads at Rabobank. 鈥榃e aim to automate manual and repetitive tasks so that our employees can focus on the complex thinking,鈥 says Robert van Uden, Solution Architect and Business Analyst for 麻豆原创 BTP at Rabobank.

鈥榃e take the robot out of the human,鈥 Van Uden continues. 鈥楾edious tasks? We can probably automate those. Hate it? Automate it. That way, we make work more fun, improve the quality of processes by eliminating errors and save on costs.鈥

Successful automation

Within Rabobank, there are already several examples of successful automation. For example, a robot checks daily whether money for, say, a mortgage or insurance has arrived in an account, checks whether the description indicates where the money should go and, if necessary, performs the transfer.

To handle invoice-related questions from suppliers, Rabobank built the chatbot Billy. Van Uden: 鈥楥olleagues were spending much of their time answering the same questions over and over again, such as 鈥渨hen will my invoice be paid?鈥 That’s where the chatbot could take over some of the work.鈥

Help from AI

A next step is to use artificial intelligence (AI) for new processes or improving processes. 鈥楢I will never completely replace humans, but AI can help and advise our employees. For example, AI can alert the user to a fraudulent invoice, after which a robot collects the information needed for further analysis. That analysis is then human work.鈥

Another example is the automatic enrichment of incoming invoices using AI. In this example, 麻豆原创 Process Automation retrieves an invoice from email after which 麻豆原创 Document Extraction Service extracts data from the invoice using OCR technology. This data is then analysed and enriched by AI/ML models in 麻豆原创 Data Intelligence Cloud, which perform categorisation and validation. After validation, the system automatically books the invoice into 麻豆原创 S/4HANA and schedules payment, minimising manual intervention and increasing efficiency and accuracy.

Rabobank has a 鈥樎槎乖 unless鈥 policy for process automation. In this, 麻豆原创 S/4HANA is the 鈥榮ingle source of truth鈥 for the consistent and reliable data needed for automation. 鈥榃ith a new issue, we always look at our standard solution 麻豆原创 S/4HANA first,鈥 says Van Uden. 鈥楾hen we see whether there is a service on 麻豆原创 BTP that meets the need. Only then do we consider solutions from other vendors.鈥

Rabobank is now migrating to 麻豆原创 S/4HANA in the private cloud in stages. For finance, the bank already made the switch, as part of the OneFinance project. Among others, Accounts Payable will soon follow. 鈥榃e are not only migrating to a new ERP environment, but also replacing outdated interfaces, such as the one with our payment lane,鈥 notes Van Uden.

By moving to RISE with 麻豆原创, Accenture was able to simplify its IT landscape, reduce its total cost of ownership, and gain access to the latest innovations and best practices from 麻豆原创.听听Further, consuming RISE with 麻豆原创 as a managed service allowed Accenture Global IT to reduce required night and weekend support by 60 percent, enhancing employee work/life balance, and led to valuable upskilling for 50 percent of the retained IT team.

Cloud mindset and composable architecture era

Building upon the move to听, Accenture adopted a modern digital core strategy, which centers on keeping its core ERP system as standard and as simple as possible, using 麻豆原创 BTP to extend and enhance its capabilities, and anchoring to a cloud mindset for both IT and business professionals. This approach allows Accenture to avoid unnecessary customizations and modifications in its 麻豆原创 platform, which can create complexity, risk, and technical debt, and instead focus on delivering value-added solutions.

Since the strategy was introduced, 21 percent of the platform鈥檚 custom code has been removed, improving performance and reducing overhead. Beyond that, re-solutioning legacy custom code to leverage extensibility has provided its own benefits.

Leveraging 麻豆原创 BTP, a cash application scheduler was developed to improve integration; now the integration runs 77 percent faster, and the already successful 麻豆原创 Cash Application solution has even greater results 鈥 auto-clearing of cash application has now doubled since the solution was introduced and increased a further 7 percent with the scheduler activation.

Another key solution that Accenture uses to implement its clean digital core strategy is 麻豆原创 Profitability and Performance Management (PaPM), a cloud-native application that runs on 麻豆原创 BTP and enables advanced profitability analysis, performance measurement, and optimization. The use of 麻豆原创 PaPM for Corporate Allocations 鈥渟treamlined and reduced risk听in delivering financial results,鈥 said Lisa Pearson, director of the company鈥檚 Management Reporting Process.听 鈥淚t also gave us听transparency and control of our processes and听calculations while also eliminating manual actions 鈥 valuable benefits our previous custom听solution could not offer.鈥

The solution now runs 50 percent faster with greater traceability.

The enterprise software company also introduced 麻豆原创 Build Code solutions which aim to facilitate collaboration with business experts, complementing their low-code 麻豆原创 Build solutions from 2022.

The upgraded 麻豆原创 Build Code offers AI-powered productivity tools optimised听 optimised for Java and JavaScript development.听 It draws on the power of 麻豆原创鈥檚 new GenAI copilot Joule, embedding code generation capabilities for data model, application logic and test script creation.

麻豆原创 maintains that good data is the foundation of good AI.

To support AI development, the company鈥檚听麻豆原创 HANA Cloud now includes vector database features in its multimodel offerings. Vector data stores handle unstructured data like text, images, or audio, improving AI context and quick object retrieval.

These features enhance interactions between large language models and听an organisation鈥檚 mission-critical data. According to 麻豆原创,听 using industry-specific customer data reduces听the risk of AI ‘hallucinations’ or false information being generated.

Demand for skilled developers

麻豆原创 aims to upskill two million software developers by 2025.

In addition to the AI Foundation, it has also announced role-based certification and free learning resources for ABAP Cloud developers. Released in 2022, ABAP (advanced business application programming (ABAP) is said to听simplifies the development of business applications within 麻豆原创 environments.

麻豆原创 has also partnered with the Stanford Institute for Human-Centred AI to collaborate on research into the intersection of generative AI and business.

For over 5,000 employees in听, based in Athens, Greece, each working day begins with an important action to ensure the organization鈥檚 compliance with local labor legislation: they clock in on a personalized application powered by the听听solution.

Eurobank is one of Greece鈥檚 largest employers, numbering approximately 6,500 employees and one of the four leading banks in the country, with 鈧81.5 billion in total assets under management and 500 office locations throughout Greece. In addition, it has 2,200 employees based at 120 sites in Luxembourg, Cyprus, Serbia, Bulgaria, and the UK.

As a leading employer in Greece鈥檚 banking industry, Eurobank provides its employees with a simple, modern method to accurately track their working hours. This not only ensures that employees are paid correctly but also helps the bank comply with strict new laws that require all clocked hours to be transmitted in real time to the Greek Ministry of Labor.

鈥淲e had to combine the strict legislation requirements along with a seamless and flexible work experience that we want to provide as an organization. New Law Puts Labor on the Clock

In 2021, the Greek government enacted labor law 4808/2021, which requires organizations with more than 250 employees to provide daily 鈥渓ive鈥 monitoring of their employees鈥 work schedules, shift planning, and overtime. The introduction of a Digital Work Card means employers need to connect their time tracking system directly to the Ministry of Labor鈥檚 ERGANI II IT platform for real-time updates to ensure compliance with rules around the maximum weekly working time and minimum daily and weekly rest periods for employees.

Prioritizing Data Accuracy, Integration, and Employee Experience

Most importantly for Eurobank, the new time tracking solution needed to be reliable, accurate, and seamlessly integrated with other HR processes. The bank required a high level of data accuracy to comply with Greek law and perform payroll processing on a third-party system.

Change Management for Employees Enhances Success

Eurobank went live with 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors Time Tracking in January 2023, concluding a six-month project that included an intensive blueprint phase and near-daily interactions with the Ministry of Labor. Working within 麻豆原创 BTP, the IT team customized an interface to the solution, so the data collection adhered precisely to the requirements of Greek law. Altogether, the team developed 28 interfaces to facilitate the data exchange with the ERGANI II system.

Clear communication to the employees was an important contributing factor to the project鈥檚 success. 鈥淲e provided a lot of training and support before we went live,鈥 says Tachataki. 鈥淲e went through a change management pathway with our employees to allow them time to adapt to this new reality. When employees clock in or clock out in 麻豆原创 SuccessFactors Time Tracking, they see a clean, simplified user interface that facilitates quick action. They have an overview of their schedule 鈥 including flex time, approved overtime, and estimated leave time.

Despite a high level of employee engagement, Eurobank is realistic that it is not possible to have 100% daily compliance among 6,500 employees, and some discrepancies have had to be clarified. 听is an Italian financial services holding and the first insurance company in the damages sector in the country, based in Bologna.听With more than 2,400 agencies, the group has almost 12,000 employees, serving 15.5 million customers with the help of approximately 20,000 agents and sub-agents.

The Challenge of Master Data Management and Governance

Establishing a consistent and harmonized master data management strategy across all areas of an organization helps simplify the management of enterprise data and increase the accuracy of information.

This was true for Unipol. To channel customer and supplier master data change requests from a large group of employees to a limited number of authorized business users, the company looked for a centralized solution. This new solution would provide a real level of automation to capture, control, and distribute incoming requests and reject incomplete requests simultaneously.

Before the project started, change requests came in via e-mail or as Word documents, thus leading to an unreliable process with unnecessary interactions and long waiting times until the numerous requests and questions could be processed and answered.

The Solution

Unipol鈥檚 trusted, longtime IT partner Qintesi already managed existing 麻豆原创 systems within the organization and had a proven track record of using听麻豆原创 Business Technology Platform (麻豆原创 BTP). The experienced partner implemented a centralized app to manage the creation and modification requests by authorized users. During the design phases of the solution, the project team worked with 麻豆原创 experts and听.

Built with 麻豆原创 BTP, the new solution manages the master data creation and change requests centrally, saving time, reducing error rates, and making the entire process transparent and easy to manage.

Thanks to the new solution, the Unipol Group has seen a significant decrease in the required time to handle requests. The consistency and completeness checks with which the applications have been designed help guarantee the quality of the entered data. For a new master data entry or change, the processing time of authorization has been reduced, since only selected fields are now subject to an authorization flow, streamlining the process while maintaining the necessary level of control.

Within the first phase and along the agreed timelines, the project team went live with about 80 users. During the second phase, the new solution was rolled out to several hundred users of the group.

鈥淭he project has enabled Unipol Gruppo to further move towards a unified master data management process. The organizational model we adopted was supported by a portal in which to channel the checks deemed necessary to ensure correct maintenance of the database,鈥 said M. Alessandra d鈥橝lfonso, head of Unipol SAI Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.

鈥淚n this project, the challenge was to add an authorization workflow to an already complex process concerning Unipol鈥檚 business partner master data. Thanks to 麻豆原创 BTP, the new process has become simpler, faster, and can ensure very high data quality.
