Helping CFOs grow, learn and flourish was the topic for the final panel discussion at the CFO South Africa Summit on 9 March.

EY听辫补谤迟苍别谤听Sean Berrington聽shared how his recent move from CFO of Standard Bank鈥檚 group engineering division to a passion-led technology leader helped him evolve into a leader of the future.

Sean, who says he has always had a passion for technology developments, said he saw the value of being a technology leader with a finance background appealing. 鈥 Over the years at Standard Bank I had developed a passion for tech, and I decided that I would follow my heart. My past experience as a CFO brings different values and conversations to my current role.鈥

Addressing the audience of finance executives, Sean said technology, and the ability to evaluate its customer value proposition, is now an integral part of any executive role. 鈥淎s technology shifts, changes and scales, we need to assess what we need to adopt and scale in our businesses.鈥

Tech-savvy tips

He gave two tips to those in attendance about being agile and adaptive with regards to technology.

Firstly, he said leaders need to clearly identify the problem that needs to be solved through the implementation of technology. Once that is done then move the focus away from the technology itself and more towards the business value. 鈥淚deally leaders should move away from focusing on just the technology itself but also look at the value it adds to an organisation and how it is going to contribute to and benefit your customers and employees.鈥

His second piece of advice was to never shy away from asking questions when faced with content of a technical nature. 鈥淭here is no such thing as a stupid question. Yes it may be awkward but in the end it will really help you to truly understand tech. If you can鈥檛 understand the value of the tech to your organisation, maybe there isn鈥檛 any. 鈥

Keep on learning

麻豆原创 Africa听颁贵翱听Sandi de Souza, who鈥檚 journey panned out differently said she believes a balance between theoretical teachings and practical learning in the workplace is what hones leaders. 鈥淓mbarking on my MBA after a few years in corporate opened my eyes on leadership styles. The theory and content learnt during the modules was great but the biggest takeaway [for me] was a change in personal development and thought process. The balance between the two allows one to approach issues differently.鈥 Sandi encouraged attendees to not shy away from learning and to be adaptive.

By the end of the discussion, all those in attendance agreed that agility, curiosity and willingness to learn are key qualities that leaders need to thrive in their roles.

AFSUG, through the 麻豆原创 S/4 HANA Special Interest Group, hosted a knowledge sharing and case study webinar with presenters Ravi Govender, Senior Manager: Programme Management at BCX and Shamit Maharaj, Executive Director at EY presenting the BCX 麻豆原创 S/4 HANA Transformation Journey.

BCX is an Enterprise cloud end-to-end digital partner for corporate and governments across the African continent and also a 麻豆原创 Gold Partner, 麻豆原创 Approved hosting partner, 麻豆原创 Value Added Reseller, 麻豆原创 Approved Hosting Partner, 麻豆原创 HANA Services Operations Partner, 麻豆原创 Partner Centre of Expertise (PCoE0 and Premium supplier for 麻豆原创 HANA Enterprise Cloud. BCX is busy with a 麻豆原创 S/4 HANA implementation with EY as the implementation partner.

Ravi explained that the business case was presented because BCX, through its acquisition of various BCX subsidiaries, ended up with multiple disparate ERP platforms across the BCX Group.聽聽 Through a oneERP alignment strategy, they formulated a business-led program to standardize, optimize, simplify and transfer their business, providing a foundation that enables BCX鈥檚 growth strategy and identifies initiatives in a sustainable and forward-looking manner. The ultimate goal for the oneERP program is to enable business transformation through seamless, streamlined processes while also allowing for scalability.

Shamit took us through the BCX journey and implementation, with the oneERP solution journey officially kicking off in April 2020. The project is currently in preparation phase and this should be ready for implementation at end of June 2020.

A myriad of workshops were conducted across the business and stakeholder platforms to understand the requirements and the scope of oneERP, with key considerations such as solution scope, data, IT Strategy and business strategy being examined.

Lessons learnt were also shared by the team and included:

  • Early strategic alignment
  • Constant stakeholder alignment
  • Early design principles definition
  • Committed and engaged leadership
  • Business and IT led
  • Detailed business case

BCX and EY are looking forward to the mutual benefits of rolling out an informed strategy and agree that 麻豆原创 S/4HANA is the approach to take for this business case.

鈥 鈥淎t this time of the COVID-19 pandemic when many organisations are turning the coin over twice, it is truly remarkable to see South African organisations wade through the rapids and white water of large scale Project Change Management, in deploying 麻豆原创 S/4HANA technology, immersing themselves uncompromisingly, life-guarded in this instance, by the implementation partner and in so doing, reshape the roadmap on the path to success, and create a technology state of readiness when the business cycle picks up.聽 Heartful thanks BCX and EY for sharing the experience to date, and most of all, for sharing the knowledge. Truly appreciated.鈥 – 聽Koosh Panday, Chairman of the S/4HANA Special Interest Group.

Custom COVID-19 solutions help governments stay connected to their citizens and employees, use data to make quick decisions, and better manage the flow of information and resources

EY, 麻豆原创, and Qualtrics have announced a collaboration to provide resources to governments around the world as they battle the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic. These Qualtrics庐 and 麻豆原创庐 solutions will be implemented by EY and include tools to help governments pre-screen and route potential COVID-19 patients, support healthcare workers, and manage the flow of information and resources to their citizens.

To help manage the impact of the pandemic, EY, 麻豆原创, and Qualtrics have collaborated on providing agencies with a comprehensive set of services and solutions to meet the initial urgent and critical needs of governments, globally. These offerings are helping organizations take immediate action in the fight against COVID-19 and are available to all 50 U.S. states and more than 90 countries worldwide. In addition, the services and solutions are provided in eight languages 鈥 English, Arabic, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, French, German, and Greek 鈥 through EY implementation and enablement services. Specifically, the solutions available to governments include:

Qualtrics COVID-19 Pre-Screening and Routing: This online, guided pre-screening questionnaire allows citizens concerned about COVID-19 to enter their symptoms, and automatically routes them to appropriate online resources or advises them to contact their doctor. It provides instant access to relevant health and safety resources and produces automatic reports that identify any gaps in information availability.

Qualtrics COVID-19 Dynamic Call Center Script: Local governments are standing up call centers (often for the first time) to respond to the crisis. To reduce call volume, and provide accurate, up-to-date information to callers, this solution directs citizens to the right resources based on their interests/questions. It also includes automatic reporting showing caller trends, patterns, and gaps in information requests.

Qualtrics Healthcare Workforce Pulse: Governments need to monitor healthcare providers and their frontline healthcare workers within healthcare systems, hospitals, pharmacies, and clinics. This Healthcare Workforce Pulse is designed to capture feedback on the resources, safety, resilience, and communication needs of those treating patients with the disease.

Critical care protocol solution: This is a customized solution for governments and ministries of health directed at early identification for critical care/high-risk patients. This solution utilizes guidelines from the World Health Organization and the Edmonton Frailty Scale and is powered by a critical care protocol algorithm. The solution assists in early flagging of high-risk patients by sharing and analyzing results in real time, allowing for more targeted allocation of critical care services that are already in short supply.

EY, 麻豆原创, and Qualtrics released the following statement regarding these solutions: 鈥淕overnments around the world are having to act quickly and decisively as they lead their citizens through uncertain times. These solutions and services help governments quickly interact with their citizens at scale by providing a means of collecting and analyzing data in real time. This allows them to take immediate action amid an ever-changing situation and bring immense benefit to their citizens during the current crisis. We are proud to stand together to help governments use the power of experience management to navigate this difficult and unsettling situation as we all work to keep our communities and loved ones healthy and safe.鈥

Public entities around the world are rapidly deploying these solutions and seeing immediate results. In the U.S., Africa, Europe, and APAC, state and country governments and agencies are running health assessments for citizens, identifying testing centers for those in need, and triaging screening and treatment follow-up. On a national level, countries around the world are asking what information citizens need and how they could work together to provide essential services during this worldwide pandemic.

Qualtrics technology is GDPR, HIPAA, HITRUST, and FedRamp compliant 鈥 maintaining the highest levels of security and privacy protection available.
